Below are the shortlisted movies for the FXhome $1000 Big VideoWrap Competition. From this shortlist we will now decide the winner of the $1000 top prize as well as the 4 $100 runner-up prizes.

All of the shortlisted films we consider to either have great ideas, great execution or a bit of both. Well done to everyone who got to this stage!

The final winners will be announced by Friday 28th March at the latest.

Thanks to everyone that entered!

Nice!

Cool to see my own shortlisted along with the others that I want to win. Even despite all the argumentation in the other thread, it's good to see progress happening. This is so cool, FXH guys, this was an awesome contest!

Hehe, awesome to see that mine's in there getting a little recognition along with some really great stuff. Good luck to the rest of the shortlist.

Congrats, Woolgie! And Rawree, too!

Mine didn't make it in, but I'm happy for everyone that did. There are a lot of really great entries. Including my brother's entry, which I edited. So that's cool.

FXHome, start more of these competitions! This one came out great, almost 100 entries! I've been over at DVXuser a lot recently and those people love their 'fests' competitions. Even without as amazing prizes (although $1,000 cash beats $300 in 'stuff' any day for me), I'm sure we could all do the same here!

It's been a lot of fun our end, too. This one was a bit of an experiment, as we've never run a competition 'off-site' before. Usually we've always had a very internal focus, doing competitions that would only really appeal to existing customers.

This had a bigger scope and we really weren't sure how it would go down. We've been really pleased with the turnout in the end, although it was interesting to note the entry patterns - the last minute influx was very unexpected adnd pretty cool to see. I think we had about 30 entries in the final 24 hours of the contest, many of which have made the shortlist.

Anyway, things are a bit crazy over at HQ at the moment and we've also got a long bank holiday weekend coming up here in the UK (good for us, bad for the work!), but we'll make sure we get the final results out by next Friday at the latest.

Things haven't worked out too badly for you so far then, that's got to be worth a few dollars of anyone's winnings.

Just send him a check in the mail, thats what I did to the head coach of the lacrosse team, though he never called me back for this season...lol. My letter was something like this, though the amount was around 500$....

---------------------
Dear Fine Sir,
you have a withstanding balance to the gallant man who is justly named Atom, of one hundred and oh oh dollars, for the services justly provided. From the date of march the 28th in this great year of the lord, if the sum is not justly paid, you shall be henceforth be banished from this planet, and doomed to burn in the eternal frigged reaches of space.

Good day to you sir.

Sincerely,

Adam the gallant.

----------------------

lol.

After a letter like that, I just got the check, and The coach never even told me how he liked the video. I still have no clue to this day.

Anyways,
Congratulations to everyone that made the short list!
All of our hard work really paid off.
Hopefully mine can place, this is the first contest
that I have ever entered, so that would be a pretty big
achievement for me and my crew.

Well, I didn't make it... Can't say that I'm too surprised, though. The finished video didn't turn out exactly as planned. Congrats to everyone who made it into the top twenty.

We at Dennis & Ronnie Films believe that it is trivial to include a detailed description of a film that will take only slightly longer to watch than it will to read the synopsis. smile

Despite the fact that I really, very badly want to win, I must concede that most of the entries on the shortlist are ones that I'd be happy to see win.

Chris, I love yours. I think the pacing (as far as how much of the episode you show vs. how long the intro is) is a bit whack, but it hardly makes a difference. It's still got that Cowan edge, haha.

microphonejones, I watched yours for maybe 15 seconds the first time around (I stopped at the 'Watch Yo Mouth!', sadly) but now that I watch it until the song, I've gotta say......the rap is great. It's comical and a bit loose, very much in the vein of early Will Smith. The meter and beat are also great. The video itself isn't the best, but the content (the song) is great. It's weird, (and I mean no disrespect to the video) but if you just play the audio, I could swear it's a pro radio ad. Great stuff! A little out there on some fronts, but still solid and clever.

As for mine, well.....I like it well enough. I really really really really wish I'd found enough time to get all the shots I wanted and cut out a lot of the moodiness, but because I was swamped up until the last week (and then stuck in Oklahoma, ughh biggrin) I didn't manage time well enough to get what I wanted. I still think my video came out pretty good, but it's got the moody, voice-overy 'Atomic' feel that I wanted to break from. I guess some style is better than no style, right? biggrin

Anyhow, may the best video win. I literally have no idea who it could be. (But I am secretly rooting for myself! biggrin )

We've whittled the shortlist down to 10 finalists, from which we'll choose the 5 actual winners. Not an easy task!

Winners will be announced at some point tomorrow (Friday).

How'd you make it an FLV file? I thought you needed to own VideoWrap to do that. Anyway, I haven't seen Messages yet and will probably watch it later on today.

My friends and sibling all, collectively, own FXHome programs. My bro has EffectsLab, my friend Brian (who's in Messages) has CompositeLab, and my friend Chase has VideoWrap and EffectsLab.

We all contribute to each others' projects in different ways (I did some minor grading in Detention and Who We Are, for instance) and as such we're then open to use the programs on said projects.

Cant Wait!

I feel like I'll be looking every second to see if the results are posted. Hahahaha.

Incase anyone is wondering, 6 months ago a swedish production company copyrighted white shark productions, and I was forced to change my screen name for copyright reasons....Which sucks because white shark is the name I have been using since i was 7.....

White-err...SilverShark, that sucks about name infringement. "Atomic Productions" is a copyrighted name in Calgary, but only for corporate video; film and live events are still covered under my version of "atomic", which is incorporated for the same reason you had to change your name, haha.

Anyhow, I am just like you: I am getting so antsy about these winners. Not only would it be an honor (for reals, I know this sounds cheesy) to win the competition and have my ad be shown wherever they plan on showing it, but I could really use the money. Turns out I'm going to have to go to summer classes down in Austin to make up all my freshman college credits so I have credentials enough to transfer to Texas's film school in the fall (their system of admission is so effed up, I can get into business school but even when the Dean of the film school says he wants me in there, I still get provisional entrance); meaning that I don't have a summer to make money for college and film school/supplies. One grand (minus dues to the helpers) would be a SWEET amount of cash to get a light kit or a DSLR or what have you.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan I can't wait for the results. I won't be crushed or anything if I don't win, but I really wanna win! biggrin It's so incredibly close between the videos that I still have no idea who it'll be! The suspense is killing me!!!! crazy
