This thread just reminded me of this quote, sorry for the spam.
"The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy says that if you hold a lungful of air you can survive in the total vacuum of space for about thirty seconds. However it goes on to say that what with space being the mind boggling size it is the chances of getting picked up by another ship within those thirty seconds are two to the power of two hundred and sixty-seven thousand seven hundred and nine to one against."
Actually contributing to this thread however.
1 minute 17 seconds ! Not bad, but then its not good either, you're still going bye-bye.

I quite enjoyed the picture that made the decision for me that when entering a space vacuum I decide to jump from my space ship and upon entering space i realise (with the help of my trusty exclamation point)
that I forgot my space suit. Now I just feel dumb so I hold my breath and swim for it. well that worked for 1 minute and 23 seconds. yay me!
cool find. Now I know

One minute, seventeen seconds. That's not too bad. It'd be long enough to truly appreciate the fact that you're going to die horribly in a vacuum, and to decide that jumping ship wasn't such a good idea after all.

It's great to know that I won't have much time to do anything fun if I get sucked into a vacuum. Maybe I can boost that to 3-5 mins?
