I am trying to create a realistic ground explosion. I was watching an old episode of the TOS Star Trek (Arena) and have been studying a ground explosion frame by frame. A flash at the hit point, a column of fire upwards which creates a rolling fire ball that changes into a black smoke ball that rolls upward into the sky. i hope this description has motivated one of you fellows that create the effects presets to work on this? I have tried creating the components and putting all into blue footage so I can use it later as bluescreen but haven't perfected the above effect. I still can't get the rolling fire/smoke ball.

So far I have created a colourful pyrotechnics explosion using an energy flash, a column of realistic fire moving upwards and behind the fire an alternating energy ball which grows, peaks in size in the middle of the effect and then dissipates while moving upward and out of view, all within one second. If the alternating energy ball were fire turning into black sooty smoke the effect would appear more realistic.
