How to get involved

There are lots of opportunities to get involved with the FXhome Film Project, from important on-set crew roles to concept art, poster designs and visual effects. Some positions we’re looking for right now, while others will become available as the project progresses.

This post will be updated as new opportunities arise.

Concept & graphic artists

We're looking for some help in three areas relating to the base:
  • Exterior visual concepts

Visual effects

If you're interested in helping out on the visual effects side, click here for more details!!

Feedback & discussion

All FXhome products have benefited from user feedback and the Film Project is no different. Even if you can’t get involved in a major role, feel free to discuss the project and ask us questions in the new FXhome Film Project forum – you can still have an impact on the production!

Not a lot to choose from yet but it's only just beginning. However I want to know what type of editing your on about seeing as I've heard different uses for it. Are you looking for an editor as in "I'll cut this clip here and there" or are you looking for the entire Post-Production area of things, 'VFX, Colorist, etc'?

We're looking for an editor. smile Someone to cut the footage together into the finished film. Grading and effects are entirely separate roles.

Bear in mind we're just focusing on the on-set crew at the moment, as that's the most crucial element right now. With the shoot rapidly approaching, all our focus is on that. Once the shoot is over, however, we'll be looking in more detail at post-production, at which point location will be far less of an issue.

Sounds great.

Who will be your onset vfx supervisor?

I would be happy to help in the design/vfx.
My previous credited work is on the vfx in Return of the Ghostbusters...

Also, do you have a working timeline/deadline?

I've always wanted to try miniatures for for live action, don't know how well that would work with the projects but I just thought I would toss the idea out here. Here is a somewhat more 'realistic' example of my work.

Being 16 (17 in August) means that I can't use this as on-set work-experience. Post-production work experience is probably pretty useless to me as well...

Thanks guys....

I believe Mike Stiff may be supervising practical effects; he's worked on Get Lost and Coalition of Heroes, as well as lots of other projects that aren't connected to FXhome.

Also, do you have a working timeline/deadline?
We do, although that's not my department. smile

cool stuff about miniature
I don't know what route(s) we're going down for visual effects just yet, but I certainly wouldn't rule out miniatures just yet. So thanks! Your set work on your own shorts has always been awesome.

I have some experience in creating 3D artwork, and would love a shot at maybe generating the logo for the mining corporation. If you want to see some of my work, you can check me out over at

I do not do, however, any animation at this time, but as I said, I would love to have a crack at the logo.

Hi there,

My name is Siddhartha Barnhoorn, I'm a filmcomposer from The Netherlands. This sounds like a superb project. I'm currently working on a shortfilm by Ashley Wing and did a few projects for Joby Stephens (also a Fxhome member) and I'd like to ofer my services as a composer for this project. If you're interested. Here's my website with my portfolio:

Good luck with shooting and everything. Looking forward to this film.

Cheers,

Let me know when you start getting into sound design. I've got a decent recording studio set up at my house, and would love to work on creating some sound effects.

I'm impressed to read about this great opportunity but you shouldn't limit it to the USA alone as there are countless foreign directors here who've got alot of great stuff to offer, preferably a worskshop could be set up to accomodate directors from around the globe. In the while, i'm interested in this one project and would love to be entered for it.
I'm actually good at directing and editing alike as i produce, direct and edit my work (projects)

It is, in fact, not limited to the USA. The far majority of the people working on the film are in the UK, as that is where the producers are based, but there are people working on various aspects of the film from quite a few different countries.

At this point though, they are well into post-production work, what with the edit being locked, the score being completed, and lots of the visual effects in the bag as well. So if you are interested in being 'entered' for it, you should mention specifically which area you are interested in, as well as your qualifications and some sort of demo reel, and sent it in an email to: fxhomefilm@gmail.com . I don't know that they are still looking to fill any positions, but its worth a shot, anyway.

I'm not sure how they would work to accomodate directors in other countries, unless the directors were willing to travel to the UK for the project, because they (the producers, the FXhome crew) are running a company in the UK, and likely can't really just trip off to another country for a film project. In order to get the project to happen at all, they had to fund it, and build much of the sets themselves, to keep costs down. If they weren't able to work from home, I think the cost would be prohibitive. That being said, their goal from the beginning was to get lots of people involved from the community here, regardless of where they were physically located.
