I think Germany even though i am greek. Yesterday Greece lost 0-2 from Sweden. We played bad, very bad and probably we will be 4th n our group with no goals at all... Very bad attack, bad defence- EVERYTHING BAD but we were the winners of euro 04!so....

I voted Germany earlier. Them and Portugal are my tips for being consisten and grinding out results. The usual suspects like Italy and France seem jaded to me and I doubt if they'll perform.

I'm half Spanish though so obviously I'm hoping España win now that England are a lost hope.

I'm rooting for Germany, used to live there. Otherwise I love Netherland fans, so they are my second favorite to win. I was in Amsterdam when they won the quarter finals in the world cup. Crazy stuff. smile

Since I got Spain in a raffle, I can only stick with my Spain Campaign. Whilst I do not ultimately follow football... £80 would be nice!

This year our team SUCKS! i don't know what the hell our coach is doing!

I hate when a team is 2 goals down, they get a goal with a bit of time to spare but can't secure the tying one. It makes me anxious for a good 15 minutes and disappointed when the whistle is blown. unsure Hopefully they play better against Austria. That game had a lot of sloppy ball movement and an inability to make anything happen near the net. Podolski is great at putting it away though.

Who caught the Netherlands France game? Some fantastic goals in there, watch the replays at least. Netherlands were on fire. And any French fan who complains about the calls against France (namely the hand ball in the box) should take a look at the score. They had no chance.

Yeah, awesome game. I loved how when France scored a goal and it was 2-1, the announcers started talking about how they now had hope and this was going to be hard on the Netherlands, and as they were talking over the replay, it cut back to the game with a Dutch guy in the penalty zone scoring a goal. It was like 6 seconds afterwards biggrin The guy stopped mid-sentence and went "and... err... oh... nevermind!"

Also, I hope the France-Italy game isn't a tie so that one of the two stay for the quarter finals... otherwise it'd be kinda lame to have Romania in there razz

Go Holland!

Well as usual I fancy Holland or Spain. Spain might actually do something this year but since Holland thrashed Italy and France they are looking good.

If Romania went through in that group too it wouldn't be so bad, they nearly beat Italy who only saved their skin by fouling and giving away a penalty. (lucky for them it was saved)

Also I'd like Portugal to go quite a way and then get knocked out at the last minute so we can see Ronaldo cry again. smile

Well, we watch Hockey, which is every year, and has Canadian teams (go Montreal) so people tend to forget when the Euro or the World Cup comes on every 2 years. There's really not many people who actually watch the games, right now people either don't care or are just informing themselves about the score. When the Quarters and Semis start I guess a few of the more interested one will watch them. It isn't even on the front page of the sports section in the newspapers (golf?!).

But as I described, the people who actually get into it generally have some sort of link to one of the countries, like how I lived in Holland and how one of my friends is half Portuguese. There are a few people who just watch it without actually picking a team, but I don't know any people who get behind France just because of the French heritage of this part of the country (would be England everywhere else in Canada if the team wasn't crap, I guess).

Indeed, Holland vs France was the best game so far... loved the 4th Holland goal when France scored a very nice goal but immediately Wesley Sneijder beat it with a sublime goal! The French must have been gutted.

For me, everything's going as expected. Germany and Portugal are doing well, Holland are for once achieving their potential (not so expected), and France and Italy look old and jaded (reflecting France's change of player personnel and the problems Italian football have had recently).

The funny thing is that if Romania win against Holland, or both games in their group end in draws, they go through and France and Italy are out.

I'm totally for the Netherlands. Yeah, I'm from Holland. But I have to admit, we had very much luck the last two competitions. Well, atleast we're already placed for the quarter finals.

I'm totally hoping that Germany and the Netherlands will make it to the finals, so we can slay the germans twisted

Germany's Euro 2008 leading goal-scorer, Podolski, is injured. He's done some magical stuff in this tournament, really hope he recovers ASAP. Seems like they are having trouble putting the ball in the back of the net (looks at Gomez), this could be terrible.

Anyone see the Austria/Germany game? Ballack's free kick was nothing short of epic.

yeah, i watched the game...damn germans...ballacks goal was nice...but we austrians did fight pretty well (for our standards ^^) ... and the referee was a jerk...we should have had a penalty kick, and a german player (cant remember his name right now) should have got the red card for a pretty bad tackle...all in all, austria just didnt have that much luck...

but I support Holland now...they are truly playing like gods !!!

I can't wait for the italy vs. france game (revenge for 2006 perhaps?)

cheers,

I take back my previous statement. The Croatia/Turkey and Netherlands/Russia games were infinitely more intense, even though I'm not a huge fan for any of the four teams (though I support Netherlands somewhat).

This is an incredibly entertaining tournament. I'm watching the rest of the matches at local sports bar. While my friends and I are the only ones who watch the Euro Cup, it's still a good atmosphere. Just really did that for the first time today as there hasn't been a big tournament since we got our drivers licenses and I don't care about any other sport.

Germany vs. Turkey today.

With Turkey missing 9 of their players Germany has a greater chance of winning, but Turkey has been playing really well.

Damn Swiss lightning! I missed 4/5 goals due to dentist appointment, then ESPN live was down for 2 more, and it started up right when Lahm scored, went back out again. Happy outcome, but I would've loved to have watched it... I was there for about 70 minutes of the game, only actually saw about 20.

I want Russia to win against Spain, I'd love to see a Russia Germany final. And Spain is extremely good right now, Russia would be an easier matchup. I honestly think for them to win, it would be by the grace of God (luck).

On Sunday are the finals.

Germany vs. Spain.

Even though Germany has been playing a bit funny and had a lot of close games I still like them the best and want them to win.
