While the Favreau Controversy continues, Marvel are steaming ahead with their movies, having officially announced the release dates and logos for Iron Man II, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers. It's a wildly ambitious set of projects, especially given the fickle nature of the film industry, but here's hoping they continue to make the right decisions (starting with better logos...).

Meanwhile, rumour has it that Leonardo DiCaprio is at the top of the list to play Captain America. What do you think of that?

I have to say I think Brendan Fraser has the right posture for Captain America.

Not sure DiCaprio is the best choice for Captain America, but then again I did regain a lot of respect for him after "Blood Diamond" and "The Departed".

Agreed with "The Departed" but honestly? I thought "Blood Diamond" was absolutely diabolical. Seemed too much of a pointless plot that had been done many times before.

I went for Matthew McConaughey, because he has the talent, and I believe his "Sahara" was one of the best films to date.

A penny for my thoughts.

Woah, the Captain America logo is TERRIBLE. Looks like something half-heartedly cooked up in 5 minutes by some guy whose knowledge of photoshop is limited to stroke and bevel.

I'm gonna have to say Brendan Frasier. He isn't by a longshot the most talented actor up there, but he has that sort of charisma that Captain America needs and he has the look. He can mix comedy and seriousness pretty well too. I am basing this all off The Mummy.

Have you seen him in more than one movie? He's pretty consistently the same guy in everything... I don't imagine Captain America to be the sun-bruised, vaguely southern, vaguely misogynistic heartthrob type.

Then again, I don't really think any of those actors mentioned would be good for the part. Then again, I also don't really care about superhero movies anymore.

Well Sean Connery certainly seemed to make it in the industry. *Cue Heavey Sean Connery Accent*

I'm a British Shecret Agent working for her mageshty.

I'm a Russhhhhan naval shubmerine captain.

I'm now American, and play the legendary part of Alan Quartermaine in the league of exshtraordinary gentlemen.

Overall? I'm just Shean Connery...

Matt Damon? Erm... no..

Brad Pitt? Erm... no..

Leonardo DiCaprio? Erm... no..

Though Brendan Frasier might be a good choice. I think he would suit the part well.

Iron Man is basically the only good one here. The others look like the original corny logos redone with only a basic knowledge of photoshop.

Uh... So has Matthew McConaughey.

Edit: I actually like the Avengers logo a lot. I hope the style of the logo is indicative of the style of the film... somehow...

Well, I kinda couldn't have used Matthew as an example to back himself up... otherwise anything and everything could be justified!

Oh, so many people on these forums make these lists. At least we end up making our contest films, whereas others stall projects out for years without making them.

Shia LaBeouf ought to be Captain America. He's the next Tom Hanks!

On a more serious note, I'd have to say Brad Pitt. I think he can play almost any role you throw at him. Although I wasn't the biggest fan of Troy, I think that movie shows that he could play pretty well as a war leader.

After I saw Iron Man and also the new Hulk movie, the idea of Brad Pitt as Captain America popped into my head more frequently.

Most people would laugh at the prospect, as he seems to be in everything- but above everything else he's a versatile actor and he looks the most like Steve Rogers by my account.

That, and Pitt is the best person I can think of to play off of Robert Downey Jr. and Ed Norton. Although for my money, Brendan Fraser is the most All-American seeming of the actor poll. smile

If Marvel gets what they want with Pitt as Thor (not a bad choice either, although I'd go with Sean Bean) and DiCaprio as Cap, that means they'd have set up an all-Oscar-nominated, all-A-list ensemble cast for the Avengers movie; which could and likely would make it one of the most expensive movies ever made.

Think about it: Samuel L. Jackson, Ed Norton, Robert Downey Jr., Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio. All A-list guys, all Academy-Award-Nominated. Crazy to think they'd all be superheroes alongside eachother in one movie. The thought alone gives me geek-goosebumps.

Terrifying, isn't it? Getting it right would be astoundingly difficult, but if they did.......phew.

By the way - Sean Bean as Thor. Interesting! Question is, would the same actor play both Thor and the human 'host'?

I hope the same thing doesn't happen to the Avengers that was supposed to happen to the Justice League movie. The entire, original cast, of all the films should remain intact. No "rebooting" with new actors to play these roles.

That would be amazing. Except I can't see DiCaprio being the captain, I think Pitt is a perfect fit (ha, it rhymes!). Bean would also make an excellent Thor as well. Who would direct it though?

Bean as Thor would be amazing. Granted he's not exactly as big as Thor is but maybe they can get him in some serious athletic training prior to filming. Hell, Christian Bale did it very nicely (Dangerously... but nicely ha)
