Excuse me if I'm not seeing the whole picture, but I honestly don't think a bunch of effects is worth $500. Maybe $200. The only one I think I'd get my money's worth from is the $100 program. So explain to me why the others cost so much?

Would being a professional studio all in one package be the reason?

Not quite sure if I understand what you are asking, but I'll have a go...

Vision Lab is more expensive because it contains both CompositeLab and EffectsLab products in one application. It also has some extra effects not found in the other apps.

Check this out to compare the differences:

VisionLab also comes with a commercial license, meaning you don't have to credit FXhome, unlike you have to do with EffectsLab and CompositeLab.

You also have the advantage of the features of EffectsLab and CompositeLab in one user interface, so you don't need to render out from one to use the features of the other.

Your question indicates a fundamental misunderstanding of how the FXhome products relate to one-another.

This diagram shows the correct and incorrect understanding.

The "Bunch of effects" package is EffectsLab, which is half of VisionLab. The other half of VisionLab is Compositelab - the compositing toolkit.

If you were to own CL and EL separately, you still wouldn't have the full power of VisionLab, since visionlab is one piece of software, with the power of both other products combined ie: no need to export out of one, import into the other etc.

If you don't understand the distinction then VisionLab is not for you. The other critical difference is that VisionLab comes with a commercial license: the ability to create unattributed work for commerical, industrial purposes. Given your understanding of the products, this feature doesn't seem like something you'd benefit from.

Would you rather pay $999 for After Effects? Didn't think so.

I for one think the fxhome products are reasonably priced all around.

I'm not denying that. I would buy it too if I had $1000 to spare and needed the extra features.

Other people have already pointed out the pricing structure and how it works. I thought I'd point out, though, that our software is still extremely low priced for what it does - as B3N and 46784 pointed out by noting how much more expensive After Effects is.

15 years ago the effects created by FXhome products and After Effects wouldn't even have been possible for enthusiast/independent/low-budget filmmakers, let alone affordable.

True, but the license agreement for the student edition is much more limiting than the EffectsLab license. The VisionLab license offers full commercial usage.

wait theres a student version? aww mannn i already bought effectslab. is there a student upgrade price smile

EDIT: NVM i realized what AAE is. man im dumb lol

and when it comes to having to tell people where I got the effects that I used in my film, I have no problem telling them that I own an FX program, for 150, its WELL worth it.

For what it does, VL is a steal compared to After Effects, although it isn't as versatile as AE. So I don't fault them for the price on VL.

And even FXL is a pretty decent price, but I don't see the reason for making it more limited than VL as far as effects go. That doesn't make any sense to me. Especially when the only advantage FXL has over similar free products is the downloadable library and community support.

But both Particle Illusion and Trapcode Particular have FX beat in terms of community support with thousands of more downloadable examples and tutorials.

It all depends on what you're willing to pay for.

Actually, the EDU version of AAE, does allow you to make money off of it.
