Hello one and all,

With work moving along at full-steam it's only going to be a short amount of time until we begin working on Visual Effects. This is where you guys can help out!

Heading the VFX team as VFX Supervisor will be none other than Matt Plummer (Hybrid-Halo from Fxhome). We'll be pushing people to their limits with this one so it'll mean getting the quality just right.

I'll hand you over to Matt who'll tell you what we're looking for.

Thanks Ash!

Ladies and Gentlemen...

As Ash mentioned, the time is approaching when we'll be needing some help crafting the Visual Effects on the film. We're in that ominous stage prior to a locked edit where we aren't actually sure what amounts or scope of work will be needed.

Being the person responsible for these Visual Effects am I worried? Hell no, and why? Because I'm pretty sure that there are people reading this thread with the time and talent to somewhat lessen my burden, of course.

How can you help?

This part is simple. Whilst the specifics aren't certain yet - we do know that the project will need Matte Painters, 3D Artists (both modelling and animation), Rotoscopers (That's masking, folks...), Compositors, Animators. A whole wealth of different skills will be needed.

So if you have any of those skills you should let us know and see if we can get you involved.

Do you have what it takes?
We're not looking for astounding industry professionals with years of experience (though if you are one of these people, feel free to apply...) so much as we're looking for aspiring artists and film makers who can work as part of a team with the goal of creating something astounding. If you have some talents we may be able to use them!

All this blood, sweat and tears - What's in it for you?
Other than the experience of working in a team, some top quality work to your name, an imdb credit and the blessing of yours truly you mean?

Get signed up...
Easy tiger, if you want to get involved then send an email to;
fxhomefilm@gmail.com

Don't forget to include a cv(where possible), your full details including name and age, why you think you would benefit the project. It will really help your case if you can provide some links to work you've done in the past - be this a show reel or some short clips/images.

I'll be keeping an eye on the applications, we're currently most keen to recruit 3D artists and Matte Painters so these will get the first responses though when a final cut of the film arrives and the full scope of the work needed appears I'll be bringing more people on-board as necessary.

Deadline!!
I think the current deadline will be the end of the month (july) regarding applications, though the work is likely to take up until September so if someone who will be useful to the project applies a bit late that's fine. If we fill the team up at any stage I'll lock this thread and post a new one introducing the VFX Team, I may even post letting people know the status of the project... You never know!.wink

best of luck to all those who apply, now let's make this movie beautiful!

-Matt.

Sure thing Rody, by applying you're not making a commitment - I'll be making sure everyone is happy with work both in terms of quality, amount, targets and goals before anything will be directly expected.

At this stage I would rather people who were unsure just register their interest with the project. Once the VFX work is prepped for and allocated out into what needs doing to what we'll be able to see who is more suited to what. If that makes sense smile

...Especially if those skills involve 3D.

Well good. I'll register sometime today. But do I need to have my parents write you or something since I'm not 16 yet? About the IMdb credit, do I get my own page cause that'd be sweet for a resume.

While I have a Curriculum Veritae for schools, I seem not to have a proper revision for work, so I'll be getting one of those made.

Nevertheless, I'm interested and have sent off an email regarding matte painting.

I'm up for some roto and compositing work. If there's some extra 3d, I could try my hand at it. There are plenty here more skilled than be, but I think I could still help a little.

This is not a paid project - what you do get is to be part of a great team of people (industry professionals and amateur people alike) who have given up their time for free to make this project happen.

Being a part of the production team during the shoot and as editor for the movie all I will say is that the quality is stunning and it is a great opportunity for everyone to be a part of Fxhome history.

It is not your average free gig.

The clue is in the forums this is in smile This is the FXhome film Project.

Just a quick message to say I've updated the original post to include a deadline for applications, though will be lenient in regard to it as I am still not aware of the extent of the work needed.

Cheers, And thank you for all the congratulations smile

This is a test matte painting to see what you guys think it's just a test and I don't know how you want the building to look, so I just built something in anim8or really quick and did the rest in Photoshop. I could do better with more time and i had some concept art.

Here is one of many examples to come over the next few days. I don't have the model of the module to put into the frame, so I picked a simple shack for reference. It's not important, what's important is what's behind the shack that would be composited in later on...this could be before the storm as the weather is starting to get closer...

Sketchwork is bang on, sorry I haven't really addressed this - I've bit hit by a virus that affects my inner ear so haven't been spending much time on a computer this week.

We're dealing with a huge amount of applications, a really great amount - though problematically our estimated required team is relatively normal and on top of this, without a locked shot a lot of the solutions, and therefore work required : people needed is still uncertain.

It's our intention to email everyone who's applied, though we're still putting together a team and will be emailing within the next couple of weeks.

It also involves a lot of competition and a lot of disappointment. But it's worth it for the times you do make it. wink

Just clocking in once again to let people know where things are - A locked edit is due very shortly and we've been looking into shot idea solutions regarding areas of the film we're still undecided upon - the debate between 2D and 3D being a prime example, how to keep quality high whilst render times low. It's a battle smile

So far I haven't actually messaged anyone back - though everyone who's applied has gone into a database I've created alongside their skills and a star rating of how accomplished they are at that skill - it's a long process though people will be contacted over the next few weeks.

All the applications have been really interesting - though sadly being accomplished for your age doesn't necessarily mean we can use you as there is quite a high bar set for the vfx. In any case, keep the applications flowing through - I am enjoying being impressed.

The working title is "Fxhome Film", there is an older working title though it is a bit misleading.

Hey guys,

I think the VFX Team will end up being around 8-12 people, ideally 2-3 compositors, 2-3 3d artists, 2 matte painters and the rest being dedicated to roto/keying.

I've sent out emails today to some of the people who I was interested most by and may be sending another wave tomorrow depending on some responses. The team isn't finalised just yet and won't be for another week or two.

Now, there will be people who I can't use. Every applicant I've had has been brimming with enthusiasm and was really uplifting to read - reminds me very much of myself, so keep it going - all of you.

The very best,
Matt

Hey guys,

Apologies for the lack of response from me lately - it's taken a huge amount of time to look through all the applications and to pick out a team and today, as in just now - I've decided upon all the Roto and 3D applicants.

So if you applied for one of those positions, thanks for your application. We'll be sending messages out to everyone shortly to let them know.

I want to emphasise how unexpectedly difficult it's been to choose a team from so many suitable applicants. There are a lot of people on these forums who show a great skill level for their age. It makes me think that maybe my job won't be very safe in a few years. razz

Best Regards
Matt
