Ok so I am animating a garbage matte and half way to the end I realised i need to add more points to the matte. How can I do this and add more points to this matte, which is already in the animate state.?

You can't, without losing your keyframes.

A better route would be to simply add a new shape to the garbage matte that DOES have the required number of poitns, and continue onwards with that one. The initial one you can simply move off the canvas once it is no longer needed.

Thanks Tarn as usual, with the prompt answer. Yes I did this but when puting the 2nd. matte on the picture the adjoining line are being visible or rather the overlapping are showing. Thought there is sometihing more practical to add points whenever you like on the animation. And the one you don't need anymore cannot be cleared or deleted because all the other frames would be deleted too, it's not quite practical too.

You don't delete the original one, you move it out of frame when its no longer needed, as Tarn mentioned.
