unless you have about 100 , 5 megapixel cameras rigged up round a green screen (cough* matrix) is it possible to acheive bullet time.

I have read the tutorial on the matrix move at http://www.nccinema.ch/esfx01.html and it looks simple, but is actually very difficult , especially the panorama bit, i have acheived it but the artificial bluescreens ruin it.

anyway, if i could do a move (a dive/flip e.t.c) very similar and filmed myself from say 30 different angles, then if i timed everything right then i should end up with a matrix style bullet time event.
I realised that the spectator of the film would definately see frame gaps (or see that the camera had been moved), but not if u speeded it up.

Anyone, done any experiments?

i had thinked of something that really could work, just a basic thing like if u stand on one of thoose funny chairs that could spin infront of a bluescreen, then spin the chair when someone standing on it and shoot, but do it real slow, then like u said speed it up.. very much and save that film, then slow it donw a little bit, so it wont go to fast, den u "just" do the background.. biggrin

you know, if you recorded the action...say 20 times, then sped it up until it was playing at 30-fps, and exported it, you could then re-import it into...say, after effects, and use Twixtor to slow it back down with frame-blending.

can a freeware prog or ulead video editor do frame blending. anyway, i'll try something tommorow and tell u wot i come up with.
i'll do something, like a backwards dive on my trampolene . film it from 20 angles. 360/20 = 18degrees apart each shot and then try what you said.

Or, you could train a hedge hog to run around in a circle when you jump. I mean..they're pretty fast, right? Then just attach a camera, and whala! You got your matrix effect. oink

you can download a demo of twixtor off of reelfx's website. (reelfx.com ?). You'll need something like after effects or Final Cut Pro to use the plug-in, though...

Well, it has become a little apparent to me that you guys didn't believe me when I mentioned the hodge hogs trained for matrix shots. Here are some ACTUAL photos from animal testing sessions. Check em' out.

You can find more information on these specimens and other information at the following link:Hodge Hog Cams

If you want, I tried this and posted the movie(.mov) and tutorial on my site(AFComix.com) it's under AFMovys, then it's the first one. You might draw some inspiration from that.
