I mean, seriously... First Heath Ledger's death, and then Christian Bale's arrest, and now Morgan Freeman is seriously injured. What's next? Gary Oldman falling off a cliff?

I hope he recovers fine though, he's one of my favorite actors.

Do you people seriously think Maggie Gyllenhaal is ugly, or are you just trying to be cool? She's certainly no supermodel, but she's nowhere near ugly. I think she's quite attractive.

This is what Morgan Freeman gets for driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima. I mean seriously, what?

A report says he was fine; joking with the paramedics and laughing while telling on-lookers "no pictures, no pictures". I do hope he's completely okay, though. Mr. VoiceOver is easily one of the greatest actors of today and one of my favorites.

Oh, and your post completely made my day, Pooky. +1

Well said! She might not be as generically 'cute' as Katie Holmes, but Gyllenhaal is far from ugly.

Presumably she appeals more to sophisticates such as you and I, Aculag, than she does to children.

Or maybe her toothy 'I'm a serious actress' demeanor and acting style, mixed with not-up-to-the-superficial-Hollywood-standard looks leave no other reason for her to be, from the surface, likable.

Or maybe she's just famous still because of her brother. smile

I honestly think they were just lookin for another actress with a crooked smile. I'd do'm both tho...

On a serious note. My prayers are with Freeman. I hope he's alright. He better be.

Maggie was quite hot in Secretary, but I think that was down to the general eroticism of the film as a whole.

And now, Michael Caine dying 20 years from now!

I suspect Pooky's comment was tongue in cheek, but yeah she's far from ugly.

Maggie doesn't do anything for me as an actress or in terms of attraction. She looks too much like her brother, which is just freaky.

Like Sarah Silverman. In a way she is kind of cute, but looks way too much her brother for me... Plus she's so obnoxious she irritates me.

I never thought Katie Holmes was much to look at either. She has an amazing smile, but beyond that very avoidable.

Toothy demeanor? Toothy acting style? It's simply a peg of seriousness and credibility away from acting or appearing 'snarky'. Prime example: Denzel Muthaf*ckin' Warshington, son. Answered. smile

Oh, and christ let's not revive/reignite the Keira Knightley chin-dom, please. That took weeks to fully end; what with the multiple thread conversations, avatars, and numerous sig puns. smile

To all the Maggie Gyllenhaal haters:

Do you guys know any females in real life? I hadn't either until about a week ago when I came upon a startling realization: beauty is a completely subjective concept and *gasp* eek some of the most attractive people you may ever meet would never hold a candle to the Hollywood standard of beauty.

It's ok if you didn't know this because you've never actually had any kind of meaningful interaction with a female before; like I said, I only met my first female last week.

Obviously.

You, my friend, need a sense of humor. The best and most honest girls I know aren't perfect 10s either (not that it can't exist). The very fact that beauty is subjective means that you shouldn't have taken offense to it smile

Also, I wouldn't go around brandishing the fact that you just met your first girl last week if you're trying to be condescending to us about this sort of stuff. It's kind of counterproductive.

Well, Gorion, let's get something straight here. Because I don't see the Keira Knightley Defense Club here, and she's been hammered with quips on here for years.

I have no problem with Maggie Gyllenhaal as a person, not even as an actress really. But as Ben so vividly described in his post a few pages back, while she looks similar to Katie Holmes her 'take' on the character Rachel Dawes was just that: A reimagining of how the person walked, talked, acted. Her own 'take' on the character.

And while, yes, I normally enjoy Maggie Gyllenhaal in the movies she's in- her presence in the Dark Knight annoyed me because it seemed to simply be a reiteration of some other character she's done before. I know alot of actors and actresses do this, but:

She's not a bad actress, no, and she's not incredibly ugly either. But if you're choosing an actress to replace a character in a sequel that was established in like less than 2 hours of the first movie; you've gotta either

-have a pretty damned close likeness in acting and appearance to the original actress

or

-have 'good acting' or 'good looks' going for you

Poor Maggie Gylenhaal, in today's Hollywood, simply can't compete. I praised her becoming the next Rachel Dawes, make no mistake, but I called that one wrong. smile

Gorion: this is a filmmaking forum, not a Dungeons and Dragons forum. I'm sure many people here do fine with ladies, others maybe not. Think of this forum as more of a real world situation, where the majority of the users aren't ones who keep to themselves, but more of a mix of different kinds of people. And then I'll echo everything in Pooky's response to you as well.

In other news, Morgan Freeman has been discharged from the hospital after surgery. Good news.

I heard he actually woke up in the middle of it, pushed his hand into his side to stop the bleeding, and began voice-overing the rest of the surgery.

But then again, I guess that's the just the Freedster for you. Badass as always.

Atom: I completely agree that Maggie might not have been the best choice to play Rachel 2.0

Serpent: The question was rhetorical and maybe a bit sarcastic. I was trying to make a point about how Hollywood creates unrealistic standards/expectations of beauty for many fans. Thus, I think it's a shame that someone like Maggie can be put down as ugly by some people.

She's okay, but her face really annoys me for some reason. Her hamster-like neutral facial expression gives me the impression that she thinks highly of herself, which turns me off. Dunno, can't quite explain it better than that.

Yeah, I see what you are saying. I certainly don't think she is ugly at all. However I was not impressed by her performance (I didn't hate it either though).
