I have looked through all the video demos on this site, they are brilliant.
Is there somewhere I can see the average home user videos? Is there a place where people post up their work? The ones I have found on Youtube are pretty lame and not really selling the product to me.
I am trying to understand how hard it is to actually make really good videos with this package. The demo videos have actors in uniforms with amazing backgrounds and it looks like a TV series, I am just wondering if the average person will go to quite that extent.

Well check out the cinema (above). Also click on peoples profiles and signatures, many of us have links to our home pages and youtube accounts.

Try the free demo for yourself. Generally, the average user really doesn't have the know how to work on that level using any program. However, there are many who just seem to have the natural talent (or really work at learning it) who can do amazing things. So, my advice would be to try it yourself and see what you can do.
You can certainly tell that some of those youtube vids were thrown together in 5 minutes, when in fact good special effect work (esp. rotoscoping) sometimes can and usually should take hours per shot. So part of it is just whether you actually can/want to put in the time to do it and make it work.
