Placing items within the film

I'm a complete newby at this. I got bought effects lab buy my girlfriend as i enjoy dabeling in graphic design etc, The thing is, Ive had enourmous fun messing around with four point light sabers with my mates but when it comes to placing particles or lasers or anything else i dont know and cant figure out how to position them on the screen. they always seem to end up in the corner of the screen and i cant move them. HELLLLLPPPP !!!!!

Well just check around the tutorials, and that should really explain to you how to do that kind of stuff.

For muzzle flashes, click the "Attributes" in the timeline, and drag the origin point to the end of the gun barrel.
For particle effect, click the "Attributes" in the timeline and drag the origin point or origin rectangle, depending on the specific effect, to the location you want.
For optics, use the "Optic Movement" controls to adjust its location.
