Hmm, it's hard to tell as you've put each of them on completely different backgrounds.

I'd say that the 'blacksaber' by definition can never really look good, as it kinda misses the entire point of a lightsaber. ie, the 'light' part. unsure

i completely understand where you're coming from Tarn. but, it kinda makes it very mysterious in a way. black is the absence of light, therefore, what exactly is blacksaber made of? to me it looks like a weapon of pure evil with only one in existence. of course, we're all entitled to our own opinions.

It has to be the top one. If, as you say, the black sabre is an absence of light then the bottom one, with a black glow, makes no sense - if it isn't light it can't glow.

The purple hued aura around the top one makes more sense (given my argument in paragraph one I don't know why, it just does to me).

perhaps a reasonable excuse for the black glow of the bottom saber would be that as we get closer to the core, the light begins to fade, eventually reaching pure black

I've made a variety of blacksabers in my day, mostly by request for other users, and I've never come up with a way to do it that looks good to me. Given the three options you have provided, I most prefer the first one, with the purple glow.

A 'black light' is the best starting point I could come up with to work up this effect, and since black lights are actually ultraviolet, the purple glow works best for me.
