Just wanted to see what you all thought of this. While I'm really looking forward to seeing/playing it (whenever I break down and buy a PS3, that is)... It's really quite sad how incredibly similar it is...

While it does seem shamelessly stolen from Nintendo, I think it'll be interesting to see how the technology works with a more powerful system. The Wii is impressive for what it is, but having Wii controls with PS3 graphics could be something special.

If it doesn't end up catching on, that's not such a terrible thing, but I bet it will, and I bet it's only a matter of time before Microsoft puts out something similar as well.

Exactly. Thats what excites me the most about it: Wii Controls w/ PS3 Graphics. I'd definitely be sold on something like this (Given the price wasn't incredibly over-priced... or in other words "Sonyed").

Is this genuine? I hadn't heard about it. Whether true or not, the only thing I'm surprised about is that it's taken Sony/Microsoft this long to bring out their own versions. It's essentially the Wii's only unique selling point, so take that away (and lower your prices a bit) and you're sorted.

What really bothers me about the Nintendo graphics isn't their lack of technical wizardry, because that isn't terribly important. What annoys me is their lack of artistic merit. The entire generic Wii look, with the Miis etc, is so devoid of character or style.

I love cartoony graphics, regardless of whether they have the latest technical whizz-bangery. Psychonauts is one of the best looking games I've ever played. But Nintendo really seem to have a bit of a lack of imagination when it comes to visuals.

Of course, the same could be said for most PS3 and 360 games, but at least they do have the technical side sorted. smile

While this holds true for all their generic stuff, take a look at Mario Galaxy. The visuals in that game are literally the most imaginative I've seen.

Ha the pic might not be exactly legit (button layout wise) but the control concept is. Check out the link and watch the demonstrations. It's definitely real.

I can't believe I never heard about this. Although Nintendo revolutionized the idea so people would buy it, the Wii motion controls are deeply flawed. Us Wii owners aren't going to get what we were promised from the start until sometime next year. I actually think what Sony is doing looks better than what Nintendo has done. The problem I see with it though is that I don't think you'll be able to use both controllers in one game. The device will end up being the next eye toy probably.

I have a Wii, and the game graphics are pretty good on the more teen aged games, like Medal of Honor, or Tomb Raider. Its the more kid type games like Wii Sports that have the worse, lameish graphics.

Obviously the poster image is not a real Sony promotional ad, Bolbi. You said you think the remote is fake based on the poster, which would be incorrect, even if the poster is fake.

We have a wii but i cant stand it, most of the games have graphics that the ps2 can beat and most of the games are for kids. The wife plays trauma which is set for more older teens and adults and even the graphics on that are still basic.

Where the wii has basic graphics and acid trip colours to hypnotise your kids the 360 and ps3 concentrate more on detail and realism. There are just more games coming out for the wii cos it doesnt take as long to make them with the lack of detail

videofxuniverse, the reason why so many Wii games look bad is because there are a lot of developers that churn out shovelware which look worse than cell phone games.

You can't expect it to look too much better than a PS2 because it's literally an overclocked Gamecube with more RAM.

Try playing Super Mario Galaxy and look at the screen shots from this game. It shows that if Developers put effort into the system, they'll get viewable results.

I'm not really sure Nintendo have the "resources" to sue Sony. Money maybe, but balls? Maybe not.

Ha ha, Atom is it your duty to find and put down every post made by awesome fist productions?

So wait, I'm confused, is this thing being made specifically for the PS3 or is it an independent company thats looking to sell it to a third party?

Fair enough, but I was referring mainly to the iconic games that represent the Wii. The ones that the vast majority of Wii owners actually play/own. The Wii, alas, doesn't seem to be about Zelda, Metriod or Mario anymore - it's about tennis and fitness.

I don't have a problem with that, I'm just surprised that they don't put a bit more effort into those products. Then again, maybe the mainstream gamers that have been lured in by them don't care, or simply don't know enough about the games world to see how lacklustre it all is.

Then again, Wii Tennis is great fun. But it still looks terrible.

You brought up a whole different point Tarn; I completely agree. It really bothers me actually, but it's really all about business for Nintendo and the money lays within people that could care less about deep, high-budget games. What's worse is that third-parties put all of their effort into the other consoles because their games won't sell on the Wii. 2009 looks like a good year for Wii owners though.

It's interesting to watch the console manufacturers trying to distinguish themselves and give their products strong identities.

So with Wii you've got the kiddie, friendly, family appeal of the Miis and fitness/sport/harmless stuff.

On the 360 you've got the I'M MALE AND I GODDAMN LOVE TESTOSTERONE GIVE ME SOME MORE MAN MUSCLE BABY OH YEAH attitude of Gears of War, Halo and their imitators.

On PS3 you've got...well. Er. Blu-rays? Little Big Planet? OK, so they haven't quite worked it out yet, but I think they're trying to make 'creativity' their core concept, now that they've moved past the 'media centre' angle. The Little Big Planet adverts showing off random people's levels are great, and it's cool to see user content finally making an appearance on consoles (although I can't help but think it'd all be a lot easier on a PC...).

Then you've got the PC, that lacks any kind of corporate identity at all, but can do a bit of everything. Woot!

Haha, I literally just laughed out loud. Now everyones looking at me... But that's so true of just about every 360 owner I know.

But on the subject of PS3, people are speculating that Sony may just have to drop the product all in all with the economy the way it is. I mean, their already losing a lot of money per console, and with the price of blueray players going down along with the price cuts of the 360, I'm not sure how Sony's going to pull through with the PS3. It's too bad because I was hoping for a price cut.
