There are many techniques for achieving an invisibility effect, but I'm guessing the one you are asking about is the displacement effect demonstrated on the project pages. If so, there here you go:

Step 1: Get greenscreen.

Really, there is a way to do this without a screen, but its not worth it, since greenscreens are so cheap. It involves very carefully drawing a mask along all the edges of the person who is to be invisible, on every frame of the video. In this way you can remove them from the background in order to apply a displacement effect.

If you absolutely can't use a greenscreen, then I'd recommend going for a different invisibility effect, such as the person being truly invisible (can't be seen at all), and their presense being made know by the way they affect their surroundings. Rigging props to move about as if someone bumped them is not very difficult, and with proper sound effects can be very convincing.

There are lots of places to get a greenscreen. Many people make their own out of bright green cloth picked up from a fabric store, but I recommend holding out for a proper greenscreen, as the results are more likely to be pleasing.

First place I would recommend is www.tubetape.com . They have nice screens, are great to work with, and you can find them at a reasonable prices. You can also check ebay, or various video/film supply houses, but its unlkley you'll find a much better deal than what Tubetape is offering.
