Hey, I'm attempting to teach myself mandolin, and I was wondering what other instruments FXhomers play?

I can't play any instruments, but I'm attempting to teach myself the piano (well, keyboard) enough to score our movies. I've already scored It Won't be the Last (which includes a theme by Penguin's brother) and co-scored Into The Woods (which we'll be releasing soon) with Penguin's brother and I'm pretty happy with the way those scores have came out.

I played bass in bands around town for 12 years and I sing, play guitar, some keys, and played drums and saxophone (and bass) in school.

You can hear me sing and play on some albums and movie soundtracks actually as well.

I played on Fred Haring's third album "Every Reason that Doesn't Matter" and helped him finish some tunes when he was signed to Blue Rose Records in Germany, you can hear my bass playing all over that album:

www.fredharing.com

and you can hear my voice as the lead vocal on this track "That I love" from the soundtrack of the film "Breaking up with Maggie Moore" which ran on the Independent film channel for a long time. A clip from the tune is here:

http://www.danielrogers.com/music-group-29.html

Dan is a very talented songwriter and composer.

I also wrote the closing song for the film "Bullethead" in 2001- You can find that film on VHS sometimes crazy But I got a composer credit in that one, which was cool to see on TV.

P.S> I also have a mandolin and play it sometimes but it's hard to get my big BASS fingers into that little instrument...GRRRR.

Primarily, I play drums. I also dabble in guitar, piano, and tin whistle. And I sing.

I only play guitar, bass, drums and some keyboard. My brother however can play all of those plus mandolin, banjo, dobro, bongos and most other percussion so he's more of the musician in the family wink

I took guitar lessons for about five years, but never got the hand of it. I only had a right-handed guitar, so I was taught that way even though I'm left-handed. It made things confusing.

On the bright side, though, I learned to paint, draw, graphic design, photograph, and cinematographe so what I lost in the musical world I suppose I made up for in the visual world! biggrin

Cool Topic Penguin.

Started playing cello when I was 8. Started playing bass clarinet when I was eleven. Eventually switched over to the regular size clarinet. Learned electric bass when I was 14 and from there also started playing upright bass.

It's great to see how many musicians we have here. Maybe there is a correlation between visual effects and musical talent.

As Rock Band guitar and drums probably doesn't count as real instruments, I can't play anything. wink But I am trying to learn drums at school.

I'm in the process of learning the guitar and I would like to learn the piano. I can kind of sing, not in the way most people would call singing though; more like the heavy metal growling, if you understand what I mean.

I'm trying to work on my normal singing and get a band together, but my free time is consumed by school and trying to find a new job, so my guitar learning is also limited. burst

I studied piano for 3 years and never really got the hang of it, primarily because I absolutely cannot read musical notation. Not sure why, it was just always gobbledegook to me. Also, I have absolutely zero sense of timing or rhythm - during piano exams you need to identify the beat in a piece of music, and I could never do it. It wasn't that I found it difficult: I actually found it impossible. It's almost like I'm rhythm-blind, and can't detect it due to some weird brain malfunction.

I am, however, pretty good on Rock Band drums.

I have loved music ever since I can remember. my dad and some of his surviving Nam' vet buddies used to play in the garage on the weekends when I was a kid. they played a ton of classic rock and 4 some reason when they got tipsy off booze they would all just jam with some Flamenco type of feel and I've been digging it ever since. I really enjoy hearing other folks play rather than play myself.
I guess its cause folks have different styles so if someone plays 1 of my guitars it sounds better to me than when I hear myself play it. weird huh? biggrin

Piano for about nine years, I think. Trying to get the hang of improvisation in every possible key, and to upgrade from relative pitch to absolute pitch.

I'm hoping to get better on the guitar some day, but I can't seem to find the time to practise razz

Oh, and I'm a quite good singer, but still need work.

I play Piano and Bass guitar. I was trained classically in piano, but I mainly just play inside scales (I love c minor). I play Bass because the band that I'm in needed one and I kind of thought my self how to do it. I'm not that good at it though.

Main instrument is guitar but I play bass, keyboards, harmonica, recorder. I used to play drums and I sorta sing. Now I use drum loops with ProTools. I played most of the instruments and sang all the vocals on the songs below. Lunarmoods is my ambient texture music, Project Moon is my rock, jazz, Floyd stuff. I also recorded all the songs on these sites with a few session players on the Project Moon stuff.
