What is a good free program that would record things playing on my computer?

Example: What did tarn use to record his tuturials?

I've heard Fraps is great, but I'm looking for something cheap, or better yet, free.

Thank You for your suggestions, these do look really nice. i haven't had a chance to play with them yet... I did however find one i have been playing with for future reference. The name of the program is CamStudio and I found it on download.com

We used Camtasia for the videos you can find in the 'Support' section of the website. For the recent Learn: Beach Landing & Superheroes DVD we used Fraps. On the Mac there's Screenflow, which is rather sexy.

I use Camstudio, its nice high quality, specially if you use the Divx Plugin for encoding it.

There's also a new screencap software avaialable for Mac called Screenium, which is pretty nice and very affordable.
