I just wanted to know once I've turned a garbage matte on, how can I turn it off? Say I want to take out a... pole that's hanging ominously in the foreground, but it's only there for a few frames... How do I turn the keyframe for freehand off? I hope I'm making sense, I've been up all night.

At the frame where you want it to disappear, drag it out of frame. Alternately, you can slice the clip there, and apply a garbage matte only to the portion on one side of the slice.
