The much anticipated FXhome Awards 2009 have begun!
This is the nominations stage, which means we want you to have a good, hard think back to 2008 to find your favourite FXhome.com cinema movies as well as the individuals that have contributed the most to the forums during 2008. Once you've made your decisions, head over to the nominations form to let us know.
After we've added up the results the official nominees for the FXhome Awards 2009 will be announced on February 9th. There's no time to lose, so start nominating!
As well as the kudos of being the first to receive an FXhome Award we're also lining up some great prizes, including awesome stuff from our friends at Tubetape, so best of luck to you all!

Yeah, there's quite a few movies there!
There's a link on the nominations page that will display all the 2008 movies in ratings order, which should be a good way to remind yourself of the choices.
Make sure you go through all the pages, though, because some of your personal favourites won't necessarily be in the overall top 10/20!

Well, I'm now putting huge amounts of strain on my internet as I download tons of movies to find out which ones to vote for.

Oh, snap! I've got two movies in the top 10 highest-rated of 2008! Sweet!
Definitely an awesome idea. Really cool to see the breadth of movies and users that have passed through the cinema in 2008. Can't wait to see the results!

Same here, I'll let no movie go unchecked.

Well, one of the films in the top ten (10th infact) was my own '4:02'. However, it does not appear in the drop down menus; could this be because its title is a number and therefore cannot be alphabetically listed?
I doubt I will win anything, but it would be nice to at least be listed.

It is in the list, Avenging Eagle. It doesn't appear in your list, because you aren't allowed to vote for yourself.

Fair enough. In that case, let the best film win!

I stopped uploading to the cinema when I lost my hosting space years ago. For some reason, it never hit me to upload the films I have on youtube back into the cinema. It's all good though. I'll do a batch upload sometime within the next month or so (Be expecting a lot of files FXhome team haha).
Best of luck everyone! And if for some reason you cant make it to the awards show on the night of, I'll be more than happy to except awards on anyone's behalf.
Start preparing your speeches, people.

As cool as this is, I can't help but be disappointed by the 'Best Editing' award there could've been. Ah well, next year I suppose.
Oh, and I've hit the awards season with full-force. Note the sig.

Yeah, we debated which awards to go for this year and decided to keep it small and simple to start with. If these awards go down well, we can add more categories for next year.
We wanted to make sure that the categories were ones that everyone could vote for intelligently, and the more technical you get (editing, sound editing etc) the fewer people there are that understand it well enough to make the award mean anything.
Next year, though...
Also, don't forget that submitting nominatoins isn't restricted to just Gold users, so there's nothing wrong with encouraging your friends to nominate as well!

You should see some of these new members, B3N. They think I'm being 'rude' or 'too bossy' to the 'helpful, been-here-a-longtime' member ben3308.
It's......as if.......they didn't know.

I gotta say, looking at the nominations that are flowing in, so far things are looking pretty interesting. It's clear that there are some frontrunners for most of the categories (other than the special effects category), but will they remain so once the nominees are announced fully and we shift over to the final vote? There may well be some surprises in there too...
Can't wait to see the results. Obviously we want as many people to vote as possible, so make sure you prod other members to do so and encourage your friends and family to register and submit nominations.

I've done all my nominations except most helpful filmmaker, which I'm still debating about. If I don't end up nominating someone for most helpful filmmaker, or for that matter if anyone leaves out one or more nominations, the other ones will still be counted, right?
I also agree that more categories should be added next year. I'd most like to see best acting and original score.

Yeah, partial entry forms are fine and will be counted.
The main reason we didn't want to include too many categories for this first year is that we haven't really given people any warning that it was going to happen. If we'd launched with hundreds of categories people wouldn't have had time to do the research.
For next year people will know that the awards will be coming in February, so can keep that in mind throughout the year and note down their favourite films and most helpful member etc as they go. Hopefully it'll also inspire people to really push themselves with their filming and community efforts, too.

Yeah I see what you mean, and just the fact that it's happening at all is really awesome. Now I'm starting to get excited about next year already.

It'll definitely inspire me.

Sweet! Didn't realize the nominating was open to non-Gold Users! Haha, I got my roommate and friend to signup and suckered them into watching some entries and nominating! Hope that's cool.

I know you've already nominated, but I want to thank you on my own behalf for taking the time to watch the entries that are up for nomination. Having shot/directed two of them (but not having submitted one of them under my name) I think I speak for all 2008's filmmakers when I say that I'm glad that you're giving everyone a fair chance for consideration.

I didn't have to watch loads of entries seeing as I have watched a load as they released one by one, so I've already chose my nominations.
Maybe I was the the 4th person to actually submit mine
Ben3308 - What a nice yet suck-uppy-yet-shamelss-self-plug signature
Good luck everyone and everything
Oh and I keep this place vintage without having to do anything, suck on that CX3

B3N wrote:Ben3308 - What a nice yet suck-uppy-yet-shamelss-self-plug signature
Heh, well my intention was neither to be sucky-uppy, shameless, nor ostentatious.
Really, I suppose, it's one of my simplest signatures (white text, black background) that I put up not just to advertise myself (which would in and of itself indeed be quite shameless) but to advertise the contest and allow my contributions to the cinema to still stay fresh in peoples' minds.
My view is that if someone was going to vote for a film of mine, they'd vote for it. It speaks for itself, I don't need to persuade people. Getting people who would vote for it anyways to actually vote
in the first place - as with real election - I think is the issue. And therein lies my reasoning for the sig.

Yeah, as with any kind of vote system, the key is in actually getting people to vote
. Hence why we've put links on the front page and on every page of the forum. With luck, community regulars really can't miss it.
It is still important for people to spread the word, though - make sure you mention it to any FXhomers you bump into on Facebook/MSN/Xbox Live/etc. It all helps to make it a grander event!
So far we've been pretty pleased with the number of nomination submissions. I think once we switch to voting we'll have even more people getting involved. But there's still this weekend to go before that, so keep those nominations coming in!

I think that if the thread was maybe in the General Chat more people would see it, because before I had an account I would head directly over to the General Chat before other forums. Just speaking as one of those non-regulars

Yeah, we're still working on ways to spread news to people that go straight into a particular forum. The banners at the top of the page are one new way of doing that, hopefully!
Two more nomination days to go, guys!
