I'd like to thank everyone that voted for me in the 'Most Helpful Filmmaker' and 'Most Helpful Forum Support' categories. On reflection, however, we decided to remove my name from the nominees as it seemed rather unfair to have a paid FXhome staff member alongside unpaid volunteers.

It's nevertheless great to see that people appreciate the work we do on the support side of things here.

Coalition of Heroes, which I worked on, is still in the running for the 'Best Special Effects' category, however, because it was not an FXhome production and I worked on it entirely in my own time. smile

OK everyone, get voting! Best of luck to all the nominees.

Okay, well I know I was waiting on bated breath for the news, but this is incredible! Nominated twice in one category and once in two others? Man, the nominations far exceeded my expectations! eek

It's funny that I registered this domain back in high school, seeing as it will probably come in handy in the near future. biggrin

Were your expectations for the nominations based solely on what you got nominated for? biggrin

Anyway, I'm happy with the nominations, everything that I nominated got through. Now let's see who wins!

The most helpful filmmaker category will be very difficult, IMO.

Yeah, I actually didn't nominate anyone for most helpful filmmaker, and I don't know who to vote for now either. unsure

The great thing about the nominees is that they're all very deserving, particularly in the forum categories.

Really cool to see my movie up there for Best Cinematography, even if I worked on everything but that part of it. wink Can't wait to see what happens and how it all pans out!

Good luck everyone. I am actually surprised to see Treasure of the Templars: 10 minute preview, like 3 times! I forgot about that one till now, it will be hard to vote... Nice job everyone who got nominated!

I must say, the one thing that really shocked me (even though I didn't nominate it) was that none of Aculag's movies ended up on the 'Best Movie' shortlist for 2008.

He had some really exceptional, consistently-good stuff last year. After just rewatching The Portal and Everything's Coming Up Roses, I'm a little disappointed I didn't vote for one/see it in the finals.

Of course, that's how majority voting works, and I'm happy to be in the finals/have my brother as a helpful filmmaker nominee. I've even added a spiffy newer sig. wink

Oh, and sorry about you, Tarn. That's a shame on the conflict-of-interest/whatever you want to call it. I'm most certain you would've won the forum support category. Here's to hope for Coalition of Heroes! biggrin

Yeah, agreed. Though Aculag's stuff has always been an aquired taste - those that like it, really like it. Lots of other people just don't 'get' it.

His films also get better with age, I find, and they all kind of enhance each other. Watch one Aculag movie and you probably won't get it. Watch two and you'll go "hang on a second..." Watch three and it'll click, and you'll have no choice but to go back and re-watch the others.

He had some really exceptional, consistently-good stuff last year. After just rewatching The Portal and Everything's Coming Up Roses, I'm a little disappointed I didn't vote for one/see it in the finals.
Damn, now you mention it, I really wish I'd voted for Everything's Coming Up Roses! That film is superb. But that's the rub when you're only allowed to vote for a single movie in a category, I guess. unsure We may look into enhancing the nominations system for next year, maybe allow people to rank two or three movies in order of preference. That'd probably give underdog movies more of a chance to break through.

Oh, and sorry about you, Tarn. That's a shame on the conflict-of-interest/whatever you want to call it. I'm most certain you would've won the forum support category.
Nah, I've known from the start who I had pegged for that category, and it ain't me. Frankly, if he doesn't win I'll declare democracy dead and buried razz

Here's to hope for Coalition of Heroes! biggrin
Woot! Good luck with yours too. biggrin All I need to do now is got off my arse and get to work on The Detective and the Robot...

How could Everything's Coming Up Roses win for 2008 when it already won a 2007 award? Not trying to play the devil's advocate or anything, and I loved the film, but.....it wasn't really an '08 film.

Hey - thanks guys!

It's a pretty cool surprise to have been nominated! I've not been around as much recently, so it's awesome to know that not everyone has forgotten about me wink

Thanks to everyone who nominated me, and good luck to all of the contestants!

ZOMG!!!! Well, I'm flattered, really flattered. A BIG thank you to those who nominated me, it means a lot to share lists with such great names.

If you think that's a slushy acceptance speech, vote for me and see the full, slushiest version to put Kate Winslett to shame wink

I am very humbled to have our short "Poppies' nominated. To have started my film career on this site, over some three years ago, all the way to it's first nominations is something very special indeed. Of course the film is the result of a solid team and the hard work everyone put in.

Congratulations to those nominated and the very best of luck.

Best,
Ash.

Really hard to determine the 'Most helpful filmmaker/forum support.'

The forum support was, to me, an obvious choice. The most helpful filmmaker one on the other hand, I think is much harder to decide. Is it supposed to be who gave me the most helpful advice, or who was most helpful in general? Either way, I'm still not quite sure who to vote for yet.

Also, is it generally the most helpful person who has once made a film and therefore is also a filmmaker and does the help only count when it goes towards films or would a person who's made a film before who helps you out of your bed quality as well or just stuff that has to do with film generally like giving feedback on a movie in the cinema or in the forums and what if that advice is not considered to be helpful but was meant in a helpful way or will only be considered helpful a couple of years later when you look back at it and has it got to be something fundamental or is detail helpful advice also appreciated and how many fundamental tips would roughly equal detail tip and vice versa?

Difficult stuff, all that. smile

And thanks for that recognition, Biblmac. Considering my notoriety, I had no intention of being nominated; but I'm flattered and hope I can still be a helpful filmmaker, even if not labeled one. wink

Thanks Lowlehan. You might want to note that the forums use BBCode, not HTML, so tags won't work on your post.

You may consider editing it to trim the fat from the post.

Harry, you don't have to be so loud about it, geez. Just because you live in the same building as the guy doesn't mean you have to go butt-nuts crazy.

Well it's not him, it's his brother who hasn't shut up about it. But yeah, I'm glad he's nominated at least, although I like Beach Landing the best, but it's a 2009 movie so oh well.

I saw 'Pages' when it was on a theater screen, and I liked it there so I voted for it. cool

EDIT:
By the way, thanks for the +1 whoever. Can I get a picture by my name with this?

Hey, Tarn can you get rid of the poorly-written comments with all the exclamation marks? As much as I appreciate votes from people in my dormitory, I'd rather my support not seem so loud and belligerent. biggrin

Also, I agree with Greg. Beach Landing is indeed quite awesome.

Also, Greg, you can add the picture (called an avatar) when you have enough FXperience to get a decent sized one. You can get up to 80x80 pixels, but for that you need 800 FXperience to do that. Right now it's not worth adding an image because you have no FXperience.
