You have to navigate through all of the folders within the plug-in until you get to the images. Maybe you are already doing that, but its the first thing that came to mind. Trying to select a folder higher up in the heirarchy will cause issues.

Also, the "New Project-select image stream" option is reallt intended ofr your background footage, not for an effect you intend to add. That should be imported after the project is created, using the Import image stream command.

Yeah, try creating your project first, then importing the image sequence from the File menu.

I've got a problem: I can import image streams and put them on the canvas, but I can't change it to screen compostite mode and it is just the smashing glass with it's black background, on top of my shot.

How do I change it to screen mode?

Well, I'm not sure about the specifics of the glass plugin you're using, but I believe that if there's an alpha channel, EffectsLab will composite it with "Normal" and you won't be able to change it. Perhaps try opening the images from the plugin in something like Photoshop and removing the alpha channel.
EDIT: I've had a look at the "shatteredglass" plugins, and there are no alpha channels. However, if you convert the images from .tif to .jpg files, I think you'll be able to composite with "Screen" or "Add" in EffectsLab.

but I've just discovered you put the image stream behind the footage
