Have you all thought about a mobile app? Like an iPhone app that allows you to capture, edit add effects and the upload to YouTube.

Yeah, it would be cool. But I think it would be overly complicated. Adding/Editing/Compositing everything on an Iphone? You would have limited control, and it would seem a lot harder to use. Eh, I don't think it would work too well, but I guess it would be pretty cool.

Mmmmm....can't wait for a 7 minute battery life and 20 hr renders!

But, even looking beyond the fact that this app simply would not be possible (due to lack of processor speed, disk space, RAM, peripherals, adequate control system, screen size, battery life, etc), why would you ever want to do this on a phone? When do you ever need "effects-on-the-go"? And the app would cost hundreds of dollars. And how do you capture to the iPhone? How do you control the precise effects? Why bother on a 4 inch screen? How do you deal with even lightly compressed Standard Def video, let alone uncompressed SD and HD? And.....and......I could go on, but there is so much wrong with this idea, that its not even worth it. Sorry.

I do suppose that WPD Lab could be ported to iPhone - there's a project for the FXhome team! After making Visionlab a Universal Binary, of course! wink

I guess I should have given a bit more detail.

This concept was not intended for final production of a finished, polished "Hollywood" feature length film.

It was intended to help with the concept stage.

Say you are out on a trip some where and you don't happen to have your laptop or video camera with you. All you have is your self and your iPhone. You see a great location that builds an idea in your mind for a great movie. You could just write your self and email and send it to your self. Or if your phone had the ability to capture and edit video and add in some simple effects you might be able to rough together a quick bit to help you to the finished product. If a picture is worth 1000 words then how many words would you have if you were filming at 15 to 24 frames per second?

Yes I know that video capture is not currently a feature of the iPhone but I do not think that is very far way.
As for screen size and battery use etc... if you use any app for awhile it can drain the batt. You just deal with what you have.

All I was doing was making a suggestion for the kind folks at FXHome. If they like it good luck to them if not then fine, it was just a suggestion.
