Welllll, chaps, I'm a few days late to my own party but I'd just like to thank everyone for a great 5 years actively here in the FXHome community. As of May 9th, the username 'Atom' has officially been here that long, to be precise.

Five years, whoa, where has the time gone? Went from elementary school kid perusing the site, to member in middle school, to active contributor- and here I am in college now.

Crazy.

One of the more fun aspects of working here is watching people change over the years and move from one place in their lives to somewhere very different. As we have a lot of teenage users this is even more evident, given the school->college->life transitions.

Here's to another 5!

Yeah I hit the 5 year mark back in January. Surreal. And sometimes I wonder if I'd even be at NYU for film if it wasn't for FXHome. Probably not. And that's awesome.

So thank you FXHome. Having just completed a quarter of my college education, I can safely dedicate it to this website.

What? What are you counting then, if not time on the forums? Time just looking at the site. In that case, I've been with Google for nearly 10 years.

And not to sound self-important, but who cares that you've been here a measly month? I'm only signifying my time here because, well, 5 years seems like a long time to me- and I'm sure to many other people; and it's crazy to think I started out your age here and am now an adult doing real-life adult things. (Not like I and many others used to like saying 'we'll, we're basically adults' back when we were 15 or 16.)

What, so because other people have picked on you in the past, now you're gonna turn around and do the same (incessantly, I might add) to one poor soul who's just trying to establish himself here?

Be a better man than that. For a guy doing "real-life adult things", you sure don't show it. You're being more of a child than he is.

Nah. Neither Atom nor Ben will leave Richard III alone. Every single thread he's posted in it seems, they've shown up with some condescending remark. It's really getting old. Especially with their apparent hatred for being condescended to, it's very annoying seeing this hypocrisy.

I don't really mind Atom's condescension anymore. I've gone through the crucible of the first two weeks and survived; I'll be fine now. I can't really blame him anyway; I was kind of a jerk for a while.

Probably because we're the largest frequenters/posters to the forums, don't you think? We're all bound to have comments in the same threads. It's pretty plain obviousness there. Richard III posts in every thread I post in, look at it that way. It's not one way or another, I'm sure he'd tell you that too.

And look, it wouldn't be a party without -1s. Call me a douchebag outright, get +2. And every time I add a -1 to it, it gets taken off. -8 and -5 on my posts, really? Looks like the 'oh, look, there's a minus one! I should add one, too!' badwagon is back in the swing of things. Yeah, and I'm the one with the hypocrisy. rolleyes

Yes. As a frequenter and established member of this site (who's been here for five years, as the title of this thread implies), it's your responsibility to be kind and helpful to new people, set a good example for them to follow, and ESPECIALLY don't outright insult them (as I've seen you do with Richard III).

You have said time and time again just how hurtful and annoying it is to be looked down upon, yet every time I look, you seem to be doing it to someone or another. So yes, you ARE the one with the hypocrisy. That, and you still apparently care about post ratings. You've got more growing up to do than you think, it seems.

What you are seeing is not a bandwagon, but a concensus of agreement.

As in lots of people agree that your behaviour in unacceptable and uncalled for.

You've got talent as a filmaker I won't disagree with that, and more dedication to the subject than myself and many others on here, I'll wager. But that does not give you a permit to be rude to others... whether they've been hear two months or 2 years.

You make a big deal of age and experience on here yet Richard III showed in his last post on here that he can maintain more composure and a grown up attitude to these forums than you can.

Try keeping some of your arrogance and rudeness off the keyboard and you'll find those -1s will no longer be an issue. Or don't and carry on as you are which will only bite you on the arse later on in life, if it hasn't already.

God.......

-8 is overkill, you wouldn't even see that on some naive newbie putting 'Obama is a terrorist its a fact!!!'. Come on, now. Either way, I don't care. I say one thing to Richard III, lightly, and everybody's all up-in-arms.

Well, isn't that great, this turned into an insult-a-thon. La-dee-da. And likely I'll be completely to blame for it. Yeppppp. Some people just don't change now, do they Evman?

Step one - listening to others. Not blowing off 8 minus ones as "just jumping on the bandwagon". Maybe it's because people genuinely don't agree with your posts.

Fancy that, the majority believes something other than you do. How is that possible?

Please.

I got -9 for putting the word "Paragraphs" in a thread. I'm not saying it's all a conspiracy and I'm not sometimes rude; but give me a break. Not all, but a lot of it is anti-Atom sentiment, man. I know it and you know it.

And I'm sure people, if they'd look at it for a moment rationally, would see that, too. When I get negatives, the world pours them down on me. And worse, you make it so I always lose, here. Either I care too much about ratings and am 'childish', or I'm 'rude for ignoring them and am being ignorant'. Well, I'm done arguing with you, man.

You bring out the worst in me and are always such a complete ass yourself and nobody but me calls you on it- it's upsetting. Whatever.

Whatever man, you're an ass and I'm an ass; and we both know it. Don't kid yourself, buddy. You perpetuate these kind of things just as much, if not more, than I do- because you jump on the chance to catch or insult me on something where I might be wrong; kind of like I do with Richard III. Don't deny it, now. wink

Whatever. I've been but trying to do Richard III a service here- if you'd look at my track record with other people you'll see a method to the madness; and that it's not all unwarranted offense either. Richard III knows that, I've talked to him about it, and you should know it too.

That may be true; when you get negative ratings, you do usually get a lot of them. But have you ever stopped to wonder why? People aren't hard on you for no reason; they're hard on you because you're consistently arrogant and rude and instead of ever listening to anyone when they tell you to back off, you consistently complain about how everyone hates you. And in a few weeks, it happens all over again. How many times have you guys had this exact same debate? It still hasn't actually solved anything.

This is amazing. Even the most unassuming of Atom's threads eventually dissolves into arguments and complaints over the number of -1's.

It's all like:

Atom - "Hey, it's my birthday!"
Everyone else - "Happy birthday!"
One dude - "It's my birthday too!"
Atom - "Dude, piss off okay, this is my birthday party"
Storm of -1's
Endless diatribe
Thread closed, or people lose interest

Atom, you have an unhealthy self-confidence. Whether you like it or not, maturity partly consists of choosing your fights wisely. Most fights only result in more hurt.

You can take the fighter out of New York, but you can't take the fight out of the New Yorker! smile

ALSO.....

"This movie looks amazing: FACT"
"You seriously don't know what Vegas is?"
"Still hating everything?"
"Homeschool isn't the same. It just isn't"
"n00b"
"Just go die"

Just a sampling of my favorites.

We wouldn't expect anything less in a thread like this.

For what its worth, ben3308, the sarcasm in that comment was plainly evident to me.

Congratulations on your first lustrum, Atom, now lets see who here lasts until your next quinquennial celebration.

I got -9 for putting the word "Paragraphs" in a thread.
Are you talking about the thread with the broken arm? Then, yeah, its not what you said, it is how you said it.

Anyway, congrats on the 5 years. Through the ups and downs, it has been a great year and a half for me here and I think that I really have grown as a film maker and a person. Heres to another great year!! smile

The way I said it, DVStudio? I wrote one word: Paragraphs. On this point, I will be stubborn as a mule- that was unequivocally ridiculous.

Hang on, I come back in on a Monday morning and all I get is about 10 piffling new posts? I was expecting at least 5-page topic growth!

I'm disappointed in you, Adams.

Coming up on my 7th FXhome birthday soon - can't believe it's been this long! Joined here when I was in elementary school and in a week I'm finishing high school, then on to film school! Remembering all those short action films I put up, all shot in a day or two at exactly the same place - can't believe how long it's been since then. Time sure does fly...here's to another decade on the forums wink

Wow, I've been a member for nearly 5 years now too. And even though I can't remember the last time I attempted to improve my filmmaking, I visit the forums probably every other day just to read the general chat forum. razz Here's to another 5 years of ridiculous arguments involving an excessive amount of -1s due to new members abuse of the rating system. wink

After lurking for a few months in the final months of 2004 I finally made an account so I could buy AlamDV. Man that was long ago. I periodically post here, and sometimes forget to read the forums all together for months at a time. Still it's been great growing up with FxHome. English is my second language, and going back to my first posts and re-reading them it's strange seeing how similar they are to today's newcomers posts.

After over 4 years I couldn't have been happier with joining. smile

I came on here in the fall of 2005 when I bought chromanator. I probably wouldn't have started posting if timmyd and miker didn't do the hauntfest thing that year. The color pattern was purple at that time and then in the begging of 2006, they changed the site a lot design wise. Also I remember the web chat where they announced all the new products. I think more people should go in the live chat.
