The first rule of project development is that you don't talk about it. Back in the day we were a lot more open about what we were up to, which often led to a lot of pressure on the dev team to deliver on promises and hit stated deadlines. It's great to see people get excited about your work, but it's also slightly terrifying.

Consequently we tend now to be a little quieter about what we're doing here at FXhome, until we know we're absolutely ready to announce. The frustrating aspect of this is that we desperately want to fill you in on the awesome stuff we're designing and coding but know that it's still too soon.

We had a full team strategy meeting last night, focusing on the next 18 months, and very exciting it was too. There are several major projects underway here that will really excite and benfit users of the Lab products as well as everyone with an interest in the community. We've got big plans, we just can't talk publicly about them yet.

To quote Waser: It's coming.

In the meantime, we're soon going to be conducting a series of surveys to find out more about you guys and gals. The idea is to get a firmer understanding of our customers and the crucial people that form the core of our community, to make sure that we're heading in right the direction. Keep an eye out for the first survey in a week or two.

Could you just tell us what KIND of thing is coming next. Like is it stock footage, or new software, or a new website interface, or something. You probably can't say that though, can you.

What can we expect from FXhome. They provided us with great software to achieve real movie effects for only $150. Next they will probably add morphing, titles, and more. After that FXhome will build a HQ and lead every one in and then they will destroy the nonbelievers...BWAHAHAHA!!!!

No......but seriously be prepared for whats coming next because I can tell its gonna be big! biggrin

Thanks for the support guys. We're a small team here as you all know, so things sometimes take longer to develop than we'd like - unfortunately we can't throw a 100-person team at a project!

We're certainly looking to shake things up a bit and I think you'll find what we're doing really interesting. As always, you'll be the first to know the details once we start to reveal stuff, but it will be a little while yet.

Its OK. I'd rather have better software and it take longer that have software that was made in one day and does nothing.

P.S. Based on your tweets, it seems that there are three FXHome workers that are ill.

Yeah, we're pretty diseased at the moment. smile

We had someone visit the office last week for a meeting and he unfortunately had a rather bad cold, which has now spread to Jack, Josh and Lucy. Me, Tim and Neil are so far unaffected because we're hard.

Still, the sniffling threesome are all back in the office today. There's no stopping us!

Hmmm... wouldn't this be an appropriate place to start posting rumors and unsubstantiated guesses? (just for fun)

Okay, here's my guess: 2D (or even 3D?) tracking and pinning.

Anybody looking at my post can see that I don't even own any FXhome products, but I watch what you other guys do with them, and it has always seemed to me that a very inexpensive tracker -- or added to CompositeLab -- would be a really valuable feature for home-movie and indie-movie special effects guys.

For some reason, it seems like a tracking program wouldn't be a terribly complicated task. I'm surprised FXhome hasn't done it already (or at least, not that they can talk about...)

While a rumors thread could be good fun, I'm not sure an actual news post is the best spot for it, as it would really be quite easy for some users to misconstrue the rumors as fact, since this entire thread is in the official News area.

Just want to get a head start on the survey.

I bought FXhome to enable me to learn how to make 3d animation movies and its value was far better than AE for my limited budget. I love the idea of presets and being able to give content to the community and take content from the community.

But basically what I am looking for long term to keep me on this platform long term is the ability to make movies, specifically movie theater resolutions and the ability to make movie theater quality output.

From what I have seen near movie-HD TV quality output is amazingly easy with your product. I am too new here and to the concept of graphics in general to know if there is a real quality difference between your product and say the $1000 AE + $1000 plugins package. I am not worried about how hard it is to get an effect only that the effect is possible so having to design the preset myself is not daunting but I want the final output to be not fundamentally limited to sub professional level.

What I would get warm fuzzies about is the next generation product giving me the ability to make movie quality files in terms of resolution and knowing that if I invest effort in developing presets for your platform to do the things I want to do in my movie that it is possible to produce a final outcome that is movie quality even if that takes a long time to perfect.

Oh ya and OpenCL support for mac would be killer as there is a factor of 20 revolution coming in terms of render speed and the next 5 years will bring teraflop mac pros in my opinion.
