Hey!

To those of you still in school and to those of you who enjoy summer ridiculously...

Isn't it great? Summer vacation is finally here? Man I am exited! biggrin

Most of us in America start vacation this week. Either this, or next week.
Sadly though, I have exams next Monday-Wednesday, so this Wednesday (after school) is going to be heaven.

Anyway... what's everybody going to do for summer??? I am not too sure yet; but man, 3 months of freedom!
Have a great summer everybody!

EDIT: actually, now that I think about it, our family is probably going to go to Ludington. (It's a campground that has everything)

MOD EDIT: Added an appropriate 3rd option for us old-timers.

Started summer vacation at the end of April. I'm finally going to finish the film I've been working on. Plus, football conditioning starts two days from now. Can't wait, feel out of shape.

After spending last summer at the University, I'm sort of excited to have an 'open' summer. Although, my summer started about two weeks ago, and I'm in Colorado on an internship until July.

Hopefully, however, I'll have time/money in late June to do the Dallas and Austin 48hr contests - but if not, I'm sure my team will prevail without me. wink

I got out a few days back, and I'm enjoying summer immensely. Day after tommorrow I'm traveling to Tennessee with my younger brother to visit family, and I'll be finishing up my current film when I get back. Afterwords, I spend on devoting my summer to my new documentary.. Oh, and getting a job.

I worked almost double time throughout the school year...one of the advantages of homeschooling...not anymore, though.

I like the winter too; I do a ton of stuff in the winter... snowboarding, snowmobiling, sledding... all that good stuff.

But man, I like summer too. The only bad thing is the annoyance of bugs... ugh. confused

Maryland winter is cold, but not cold enough for snow, usually. I can't decide whether or not I like that. On the one hand, there are none of the inherent annoyances and obstructions snowy weather causes, and there isn't much need to get all bundled up. On the other hand, it's basically just cold without snow, and what's the point of cold if there's no snowball fights to go with it?

Summer pwns here; hot, sweaty and muggy. Bugs are an issue, especially because we have a crap load of hornets about as long as my little finger, and infinitely meaner. Plus they're fast. But the heat itself I don't mind, as long as I'm not sprinting or jogging in it. Yeah, summer is definitely my thing, man.

After years of getting out of school in mid June, it was a shock to suddenly be done freshman year more than a month early - early May.

I'm spending my summer working. God I miss school already. Funny how things get reversed as you grow up, eh? :p

Wow cool .

Here in Michigan, we can get 3 feet of snow in one night. Pretty crazy?
In the summer, it can get up to like 90-95(pretty uncommon) in the middle of July on a crazy hot day; but probably nowhere near to the temp in Texas.

Winters are nothing in Texas, though we have a handful of below-freezing days. Summers, however, can hit triple digits. Hot.

Can hit? More like 'can go as low as double-digits'.

Summers here are like 100-105 degrees for two and a half good months, with a few days of 85 to 90-degree weather thrown into it. Those are the 'cool' days.

When we went to Vegas last month I was really struck by the heat - a really pleasant, comfy, heavy, dry heat, completely unlike the intense summer weather I've encountered in places like Italy and Hong Kong. I guess that's what you get for being in the desert!

Unfortunately I don't get half the year off to gallivant about like you chappies, but I do nevertheless have a pretty busy summer lined up: I want to finish my book, move house, work on a friend's steampunk short film, work on a couple of other short films, maybe even get round to writing my own short.

And that's just what I'm doing OUT of work time. wink

Edit: I forgot to mention the Left 4 Dead map I want to make, based on the FXhome office. razz

We usually get 90-100 during summer and 30-45 in winter. It's very nice.

Oh yeah. Desert weather totally rocks. Unless, of course, you're hiking 11 miles through a canyon with a load on your back. Then it gets really, really annoying.

Yeah, one thing that really struck me, which is something you generally don't get in Europe (unless you climb up the Alps or go to the far north or something), is the fragility of life. In Europe, if you wander outside of a city/town into the wilderness, without food or water, you'll generally be totally fine.

There will be rivers, fruit, wild animals to hunt, etc etc. The weather will be mostly temperate so you won't overheat or freeze.

In Nevada, if you walked out of Vegas you'd be completely in the crapper in a fairly short space of time.

An obvious point, maybe, but it certainly gave me pause for thought, having never been to a desert geographical area before.

Yeah, Virginia is pretty muggy too: even more so sometimes than where I live. But I live pretty near the water, so that might change things.

Hello FX Homers!

I love the summer and to go on vacations and to have fun at the beach and in the pool. Summer is a great time to relax and to hang out. Even though I like the heat the AC is really an awesome invention! hugegrin

As for finishing a year of school, it is an amazing feeling. Finally summer is here, or just about. As for everyone who just needs to get through exams, good luck and study hard! I pray that everyone can be given the courage and strength to succeed and to continue to do well as I am sure you all do! Just one of the lessons I learned about exams is to STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! Start the week or so before or else when the night of comes, you’re quite simply, screwed. Don’t pout yourselves in that stressful situation (I did it again this year wall ) and it really is horrible. The best thing to do is to review for about a week before (about 1 hour per subject every day or 2) and then just a light review and good nights sleep the night before. Eat a good breakfast and relax. When you get t the exam, work on the essays first (often count for about 20-25% of the grade) and then cruise through the multiple choice (my multiple choice were worth .4 points each- mush less than the essay!)

Anyway, Good Luck, Study hard, and then it is summer! Don’t drop the ball now- you’re almost there! Knock out these finals and its 3 months of freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck and God bless*

Cheers,
DV

P.S. I expect to see some great films from FX Homers again this summer! And I expect to be releasing at least one new film this summer! biggrin

(I know not everyone agrees with this, but just saying)

Edit:

Movie Kid 4 wrote:

Yo, the more you think about it, the more stressed and nervous you get. Don't try to anticipate a conversation and what she'll say. Just do it man! So what if she says no? You'll find someone else. There are other fish in the sea. Turst me. Been there. Done that. Yeah. smile Good luck- it will be worth it if she says yes- asumming you think she's nice or hot(what you think is really all that matters)

Yes! Our school just got out today! 3 months of airsofting sounds good to me.

This summer I am going to...

1. Me and my friends are entering in an airsoft tornament
2. We are getting about 50 people at my friends house for a war. (with grenades, tanks, everything.)
3. I am going to re-paint my airsoft gun, I am thinking about matte black.
4. I am going to upgrade my CYMA.
5. I have to re-wire everything on my AK-47. It got all screwed.

I'll probably be doing more airsoft-related things. That's a big part of my life. biggrin

I've always wondered......how do you play airsoft? Do you just shoot the sh!t out of each other with BBs?

Not to sound like an idiot, but I 'get' paintball; I never got how you could competitively play airsoft. Don't get me wrong - I love shooting 'em. Just never understood any tactical application of it.

When I was a kid, we would play a game we called 1 pump. We used real BB guns and promised each other the no one would pump their guns more than once before running around the woods shooting each other.

I would think airsoft is kinda like that.

Yes, but...

Me and my friends play it realisticly. Set up bases, tents, forts, dig trenches... all that good stuff. We divide into teams, usually, or sometimes just have a mass free for all and shoot the hell outta each other. Seriously, my backyard, about 5 acres back, looks like a World War 2 battlefield zone. We're only teenagers, but basically all of us has very high powered guns (my mom hated the idea, but I convinced her into letting me get it), so we have to wear armor. Otherwise, you'll like die getting hit by that velocity! eek.

Why do I think airsoft is so great?
To me, Airsoft actually has realism. That's what makes it so good. Don't get me wrong, I like paintball too, but airsoft takes intelligence and maturity. In paintball it doesn't feel the same. Have giant Co2 tanks on your rifles, and such. Real airsoft is a sport that is certainly not mindless or sissy (as some of you may think).

An airsoft bb is fully plastic. Some people play with the lighter 6mm .12 gram ones, but we play with...
.27bb + extremely high powered gun = extreme welts and injury

Plus I also like the fact you can't dodge an airsoft bullet. In most cases you can't dodge a paintball either, but sometimes you can just see it coming. Airsoft uses realistic guns, realistic armor/weapons.

Heres a video of some pretty awesome airsofting. It's not us, but it's still pretty good. (Our airsoft battles are ALOT more kick ass). We use airsoft tanks and everything, smoke grenades - the neighbors think we're insane... you name it, we play airsoft with it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k786MAqJfQ&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo%2Egoogle%2Ecom%2Fvideosearch%3Fsourceid%3Dnavclient%26rlz%3D1T4ADBS%5FenUS268US269%26q%3Dintense%2520airsoft%2520in%2520s&feature=player_embedded

Hopefully this answers you question. You should play some real airsoft some time! It's crazy fun. biggrin

Heh, I've always thought of paintball and airsoft as fun things to do, but being that I'm 19 and live in a big city it's not really a practical 'sport'. biggrin

Sounds fun, though. Too bad I seem to have missed the age:location for it!

Yeah, I guess being in Dallas would prove to be a problem. sad You can't have a war in a city. That's for sure.

But you don't have to be young to play airsoft, I mean you still are. But Yeah, Airsoft isn't for young kids. The Army/Navy trains with airsoft guns. They practice with airsoft guns. It's pretty cool.

You should have a war in like a basement or something. Like a un-finished basement without valuables.

Ben v Adam. Who would win? wink

Or do I have to go on an angry rant on how airsoft IS NOT the "sissy" version of paintball???

Hahaha, no need to rant - you've actually spurred my interest, and I'm looking online now for cheap airsoft guns, etc. I can't imagine an airsoft 'sniper' would ever serve its purpose though, given that the lightweight plastic BBs suffer extremely from wind and coriolis. biggrin

I've dabbled in airsoft before, but nothing more than wasting 30 bucks at WalMart, heading to the house of an asleep friend, and shooting the sh!t out of them while they sit in be. twisted (<first time in 5 years I've used that smiley!).

I've always used real (albeit with the firing pins and ammo taken out for safety) guns in my movies, so I never needed anything heavy-duty airsoft for that; save 'No Rest for the Wicked' (in cinema now!) which used a bunch of larger, broken/dismantled display models I bought from an airsoft store in St. Louis for dirt cheap.

But seriously, are the snipers effective? Are the tanks (they seem harmless)? Aaaaaand where can you get it cheap? I've done paintball (rented gun for a party, etc) before, and I own my own paintball gun (pump-action for 20 bucks at Wal-Mart, but it's still a real gun, and it's accurate because of the single fire) but I just may corral people with airsoft one day, head to the plastics factory we shot The Winged Crusade at, and let loose! wink

Also, for what it's worth, my name is Adams, I don't know, nor have I ever met, anyone with the first name 'Adam'. I know they're out there, I'm just not a party to their company! smile

Hey Ben,

You may be suprised to hear about this, but actually sniper rifles are extremely efficent- if you buy a good one (100+ dollars). Sniper rifles generally take heavier bbs, so the gun doesn't jam anyway, plus beleive me, if you have heavy enough bbs, the wind won't effect it at all. My cousin has a sniper rifle, his is only about 60 dollars, but it can shoot crazy far and accurate. But if you're buying an airsoft gun, for fighting your friends or brother or just shooting the sh!t outta people, I would probably buy an AEG. That's an electric rifle. AEG's can be expensive, if you buy a good one, so I would buy like a 50 dollar AEG.

Yeah, I've used airsoft guns in my movies too. When you paint the cheep plastic looking ones for your movies, BE SURE TO PAINT IT MATTE BLACK. Matte black will make any gun look real. It has no gloss, so it is equivalent to a real gun. Looks great!

Man, the tanks are ridiculously effective. We mount turrets, yes actually airsoft turrets, on the tanks. One person drives, another shoots. The velocity of those turrets is so high it can pierce armor, if hit in the right spot.

I understand you want a cheep airsoft gun. But listen, the cheep ones always break! After cocking those plastic parts thousands of times they break easily. If you buy a good, quality one, then it won't break too easily. Try and buy one made out of sturdy ABS plastic or metal.

For cheep airsoft guns, I would recommend as you said either Walmart or Meijer. They have sucky airsoft guns, and a terrible lack of choices. But if you are an ebay user, sometimes you can get like 10 guns on a deal for like 30 bucks! Browse on ebay, search local stores.

I got my airsoft guns from airsoftgi.com . They sell faaaar more quality airsoft guns. All of the guns sold at airsoftgi.com are excellent. If you can pay a little more, CHECK OUT THIS GUN:

http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_150&products_id=1484

It's a pretty kick ass AK-47. But it's very cheep, but still very effective. This gun won't break down.

Oh and sorry about the confusion about the Adams thing. I ment to write Ben versus Andrew. But it came out at Ben versus Adam. Sorry about the confusion. Yout two should have an airsoft fight. I wonder who would win? wink

Oh, and one more thing. Where do you get your guns painted anyway? I just bought a new one, and I don't really want to mess up the paintjob by painting it myself. Do you send them to anybody?

Never buy a mini airsoft machine gun! I got one and it broke a week later!neutral I use it as a prop gun now. But it was fun while it worked!

If you're asking me, I've used real guns in my stuff, save earlier Splinter Cell stuff and 'No Rest', which we used sanded and painted metal-barrel airsoft.

I dont get it unless that was a joke. Back to the subject I have the first scene of my script done. It promises on being a 10-20 minute movie. The first scene takes up 2 mins. I plan to film on July 6! I am writing the script using a program I found somewhere on here called Celtx. Happy Summer!-Storm

Yeah, Awesome First is being... well, Awesome First.

Good luck with the movie man!- Be sure to check out thisbefore you start filming. Also, be sure to get another date that your actors (friends?) are all available to do any reshooting that may be needed.

Have fun and I can't wait to see the finished project!! biggrin

Hehe....Hes being himself. Anyways thank you very much DVstudios but I already checked that page out. I have the Sollthars forum and almost everything on here bookmarked because I need all the help I can get. wink Also I hate to say that for certain reasons I can't put the whole video on here but I can put some trailers on here and I will only be issuing the whole movie on a DVD to the actors (Yes they are my friends). Sorry DVstudios but I might PM you to tell you how you can get it for free. Without the credits and all the features though. Also if I send you the video over a PM can you give me feedback? Thanks!-Storm

Yeah but, here's the trick...

You should only reply if you know the answer.

Which you didn't, or at least if you think the answer to that question is "four different countries" then words fail me.
