Compositing Animations with Alpha Matte

I've been trying for about four hours to composite an animation scene consisting of a landscape forground and alpha matte animation with a background animation (all rendered from Vue 6 Infinite)and a Poser animation with alpha channel. It's easy enough to layer the Poser animation over the background animation, but can't seem to work the forground animation with alpha matte in to the total composite. This is a simple process in After Effects. Perhaps I'm missing something but I can't find anything about alpha mattes in any of the tutorials or postings. Can anyone help out there.

Any images or clips with embedded alpha channels should automatically composite when you add them to the timeline. The alpha channel will be automatically detected and applied. What happens when you try to do this? What format is the troublesome file in?

The alpha channel is not embedded. It is a seperate black and white alpha movie that Vue outputs in addition to the full color movie.

Ah, then you just need to use an Object Mask in CompositeLab. Apply the mask to the footage, then in the Object Mask controls, select your alpha movie as the alpha source.
