For the smoke, trying using Axeman's wonderful preset (or this one).

To make your character disappear, check our this mini-tutorial. The same basic ideas carry over, but instead of leaving your character at 50% opacity, bring it all the way down to 0%.

Last step is to overlay the smoke over the part of the video where your character disappears.

i have the dvd but in the dvd it didn't talk about the smoke puff thing when the blue man reappears.

Ah, do you mean the dusty smoke that comes off him after he's reappeared?

That was created using stock footage from this pack:

Carefully masked, animated and composited to appear in the right place so that it looked like it was dust coming off the guy's clothes.
