What's it with everyone going on a mission? Feels like one of those silent slow plots for world domination. twisted

I think you should give the guy a break Aculag. If he hadn't left a message I for one might have got pretty worried.

Maybe we should create some sort of "absent" thread or something. I doubt anyone would really need to use it, but it might save some thread space..

...or we can just discourage posts like this to save thread space. unsure

I can see people like the ssj crew creating threads when they are going on mission trips for 2 years in a foreign country, but someone just being gone for a week doesn't warrant an announcement. I was gone from FXhome for like half a year, and you guys seemed to do pretty well inside the dark and depressing hole that was my absence.

You said it best yourself - nobody would really need to use it. Leaving/returning announcements are pretty much just a cry to be noticed and shouldn't really be bothered with (despite very few exceptions).

True, but there will always be new people that feel the need to announce their absence, no matter how short. We discourage a lot of threads, but that doesn't stop a lot of new members from making them.

I personally wouldn't use it, as my disappearances from FXhome are rather unpredictable, but hell, others might. Just a thought.

Hah, ya I see where you are coming from. In the heady days of 2006, I similarly proposed a birthday thread, because the trend at that time was to post on the day of your birthday and expect a few +1's and birthday wishes. I (proudly) never did it, but figured a thread would help clean it up after we would get one every week.

However, now I realize that if we simply show our discontent through posting like this (or even -1's, if its called for), the number of similar meaningless threads will eventually dwindle. These lame coming/going announcements haven't been particularly numerous recently, but they are almost always useless and generate repetitive replies like 'OK! Great!' or 'I don't know you, but welcome back'.

The only 'leaving FXhome' posts that I can think of off the top of my head that were not decidedly vain were the ssj's when they went on their 2 year missions. However, Aaron never really came back to FXhome after that, I don't think wink

You better delete my post, Tarn. neutral

I'll be sleeping tonight for roughly 8 or 9 hours until morning, then at work for about 7 after that tomorrow, you guys. Don't miss me too much!

Though I'll try and squeeze some FXHome time in on my iPhone in the elevator between floors of Borders (where I work) by not pushing the button to go up for a few seconds and just sitting there in the box with the door closed. (I have, sadly, actually done this.)

On another educational note:

Ending any sentence in a forum with "lol" gives the readers an impression of yourself roughly looking like this:

The only way to make it worse is to actually speak out the word "lol" (as in the letters "L", "O", "L") with a really daft and unemotional intonation over a voicechat, which sadly, I've experienced in online gaming.

Best to not do either.

What impression do readers get if you end a sentence with "lollerskates"?

How about someone saying it outloud in a daft, monotonous tone?

Mmmm, I agree Sollthar. We should use the actual term or nothing.

I'm so "Laughing Out Loud" at your perceptive post! I'm so much more mature than those funny looking babies that say "lol".

wink

By the way, I paused half way into this message to catch my infant sister who was running around with a razor. Just so that you're updated, my sister is totally fine, as the razor was only the phone, not the actual object. I hope you guys didn't miss me..

The funny thing is that nine out of ten of the times I type LOL, I really didn't LOL. Does this make me a fake person. Oh, and by the way, I need a glass of water, so I have to get up for 30 seconds. Don't worry, I'll be fine.

smile

EDIT: OK, I'm back. That was longer then I expected. Sorry to worry you guys.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but in your self-portrait you look a bit...funny.
