Liquid Metal People Plugin

I need a plugin for a person to melt into a puddle of shiney liquid (like mercury). Then this plugin could be reversed to materialize from a puddle and fade into and actual person. This is an effect i have seen done quite effectively do on a tv show years ago

would your actor have his hands by his side, or will he be holding something ?
this would determine the shape needed.

Cool, like the T1000 in Terminator 2

yep, just like ol' T1000 in the great James Cameron film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, although there are a lot of different ways that T1000 does that mercury trick, the one where he gets shattered and puddles back to a human, then ones where he just looks metallic

I think the TV show he mentioned would be The Secret World of Alex Mack
from Nickelodeon a few years back. My only concern for this plugin is that if it becomes too
reflective, then it will look unnatural for not reflecting the environment around it. Although here I am, talking about a liquid metal person looking oh so natural in the first place.

I think i can get the liquid metal effect but,
i've thought about this, and because we don't know what shape your actor is going to be in, and he might even be moving ( running like the film )
so the only thing i thought of is to create the plug in, in parts, such as
Head, body, arms, legs, this way you could shape the metal into the shape you want.
the metal should flow from top to bottom, but if you want to change that you just turn the image around.
if this sounds ok, let me know and i'll do it tomorrow.

That's a great idea, b4uask
Could you also do one where the human(oid) figure emerges from a puddle of molten steel and ends up in a standing (upright) position? I think it would be useful because one could then cut to another shot of an actor standing where the puddle was, and it would seem like a seamless morph.

i can see this plug-in being very good at all, it is impossible to get it right so it will suit at least 2 different people, and for this, the shape is important, maybe if human oid shape started to form, then u went to a different angle and saw someone looking stunned, and then u see the person standing there, then tht would work, but u can't possibly make it turn intot he human very well - especially with alam - if there r more than one...
But, i can't wait to see it anyway, sounds cool even if it won't work
What i would like to see, is bullet holes like on the t-1000...

yes, you were right, the tv show was The Secret World of Alex Mack. im just looking for morphing the character into standard positions like standing up with arms at the side.

OK, i have finshed the Liquid Metal Terminator, it's been uploaded, so unless the guys think it's crap you should see it on here soonish.
each part of the body needs to be placed down first, this is a little tricky as you need to see the finished result first, place it then go back to before the liquid forms ( i hope that make sence
) there is a still version aswell for when your man has " formed " you can use the forming to cover your own actor, on have it meld on it's own. but then i suggested you move your actor once the effect finishes so it would just leave my Liquid man ( like the startrek transported effect )
I was going to make a animation version of him running on the spot, this means you could film out of a car window and he looks like he's chasing you ( there would be a side angle and a face on angle )let me know if you want these as they seem to take a long time to do.
anyway, hope you like it, and thanks for your time.

Honest i did upload it, but i put the still shots in with the animation, and malone says he will have to make them as 2 plug ins not one.
sorry, for the delay
but i must say they are bloody good.

instead of making the actor melt, how bout kind of a "liquid metal mild explosion splash" (if you see what I mean) that starts at the stomache (or tummy), that you can cover him up with, and as it melts to the ground, the actor has been cut away...that way I don't think the shape would matter, and the effect should be reversible...
Hope this helps

Right you can get it from here.http://www.csb-digital.com/alamdv/plugins/rawfiles/474/Liquid_Metal_Terminator.zip
it will download just as a normal plug in.
the reason it's not up yet is because it is so techincal that I've been asked to make it into 6 plug ins, but you can get it as one here.
please remember to vote when it's in the normal plug in section.
( yes i'm proud of this one....)

Hi b4uask, I tried out your Liquid Man plug-in just now and somehow the body parts don't seem to fully solidify i.e. there are still chunks missing at the end of the frames. Is this deliberate or did something go disastrously wrong with my installation?

i think your right, not totally solid, ?
yeah some gaps are there, i don't think it anything you or alam have done.
would it be of use if i did it again, ( and got it solid )?
what did you think ?

I think it would've been more useful as a complete body (instead of separate body parts)
But I think we should let the rest comment before you do anything drastic

i had an idea for use in my terminator film and now that this plugin is done could someone maybe make one of the T-1000's arm turning into the chrome spike he used to stab various people? you could maybe make it an animation of it expanding into a spike or the user could tween it.

Good idea, but maybe you could have something different, insted of the spike, make an original thing ?
but i'll thry the spike for you.
i have an endo skeleton of the t800 ( arnie ) do u want a plug in of that. ?

how about making bullet holes on the t-1000, just big silver bullet holes that appear then close up

thanks b4uask. i appreciate the effort and this will come in very "handy" in my movie! also, if you would like to, i without a doubt could think of something to do with the T-800 endo. So if you feel like it put it up too! thanks.

i dont mean to sound ungrateful or anything, this is pretty much what i asked for based on the description, but who is gonna want a naked guy to appear in their film? If possible could you render it with casual closthes. this would be like t-shirt and jeans...thats it... oh, and whatever running animated plugins you have i would like to see.

Those metal people plugins look great - have not downloaded and tried thedm yet but they seem impressive - well done.
