I felt like the college girls dance track sensation needed to be shown.

If you've yet to hear/see it, this is a must.

Cyrus?

Oh I get it. You're joking. You almost had me there Atom. wink Pretty funny, albeit disappointing. I was hoping for another "See You Again" style music video from you guys when I saw the thread. That was the last time I voluntarily sat through one of her songs.

Not my taste in music.

My thoughts exactly. This is neither good enough to be worth listening to nor bad enough to be worth making fun of. It's just... completely unmemorable and uninteresting in all regards. Why is it a must? neutral

Wow, Switzerland must be great Sollthar. smile I bet you haven't even heard of Twilight? Maybe I should be a pensioner there. I've been to Geneva a few times and it's very beautiful.

Heh, it's maybe got more to do with the fact that she looks like someone who's probably all hip and cool and known... among teenagers who are into knowing who's hip and cool and known. And I'm neither a teenager nor interested in who's hip and cool. smile

As atom likes to point out: I hate fun. And I hate cool and hip even more. wink

Oh yes. Geneva is indeed beautiful. Give me shout when you're there next time so we can meet up and geek-chat next time. biggrin

Thank you for admitting it, Sollthar.

And umemorable? If only you knew how crazy the hundreds of sorority girls here go when this song is played at a party or from a car or whatever. It's hilarious and awe-inspiring all at once. A far shot from 'unmemorable'. wink

In light of my deep hatred for this song, I must admit that Atom is correct that the college sensation is a little intoxicating. How in hell does such radio-friendly bullshit get into people's heads as something listenable- let alone- danceable? In a way, I respect this song- and its artists. They've successfully manipulated people for the sake of manipulating them. What prowess!

Ben, your link made my day. How many remixes of that Biggie song haven't you heard?

I was actually digging this one until Biggie Smalls' rapping was drowned out by Cyrus.

Where Miley overlaps Biggie's chorus, yeah, it's just flat-out bad mixing; but short of that the whole "Jay-Z song was ooooon" fits pretty well into it.

Call it trite, but I found the 'remix' pretty damn catchy.

Ahhh so apparently I wasn't missing anything...

Nothing wrong with pure pop, although this doesn't stand apart from the crowd for me. Pretty girl singing in an overproduced and frankly unspecial pop record. You apparently go to uni with a bunch of vacuous children if they all wet their underwear whenever they hear it?

You think Miley Cyrus is a pretty girl? Even with all that makeup, you can't hide snaggle-tooth-stupidly-unrefined-unpretty-ness.

Skank.

With that said, Miley needs to disappear. Forever. I can't even express my dislike for her music. Usually, this is where'd actually express my dislike, contrary to what I'd previously stated, but I seriously cannot describe it.

I mean, between her little tantrums (threatening to ruin Radiohead?) and her unending popularit.. Why'd you have to go and ruin my day, Atom?

Sorry, Thrawn, I'm just still stunned this made it all the way to two pages already.

And you think you have it bad, I actually like the song now because I hear it blaring in every Jeep full of sorority girls that pass by each day. Try dealing with that.

The thing with dissing pop artists is that the people dissing and the people defending aren't doing it over the same thing, from how I see it.

If I were to diss Miley, I'd say that her music always follows the same formula, doesn't do anything to push music forward, is simplistic, etc etc.

If I were to defend her, I'd say the purpose of her music is light entertainment for teenagers and that it succeeds perfectly at that. It wouldn't be really fair to compare it to, like, Pink Floyd or something like that, because her music isn't supposed to compete against it. It's a business that satisfies a demand for fun and catchy music that you can listen to during a party.

I can certainly appreciate this song, in a "Turn up the radio when it comes on" kind of way. I wouldn't sit down with some expensive headphones to listen to the incredible mixing, though, in the same way that I wouldn't play Beethoven's 7th at a party.

Pretty good song if you ask me lol. At my school everyone acts like they hate it, but yet they be singing it all the time.

Party in the USA is playing.

Girl #1: "OMG I hate this song."
Girl #2: "I know right, Miley Cyrus should die."

Girl #1 turns the volume on.

Girl #1: "...nodding my head like Yeahhhh!"
Girl #2: "...moving my hips like Yeahhhh!"
Girl #1: "this song is so stupid."
Girl #2: "I know right, Miley Cyrus should die."

Makes no sense whatsoever. So props to Atom for coming out and admitting he likes the song.

I just watched the video.

I don't get it.

However, quite clever the way they've taken the Rihanna sound and remixed it for teenyboppers.

Although I'm a bit confused as to why girls of Atom's general age are listening to it.

This song does get a pretty ridiculous reaction in clubs around here, but it still will never top the ULTIMATE girls-lose-their-sheeit song I've ever witnessed... "Single ladies" by Beyonce.

It's funny...

One of my friends, who I once considered sensible, actually said, "Miley is great, but she can't hold a candle to Beyonce." I stared at him with my mouth in roughly this position:

O

Guys at school are raving. "Taylor Swift FTW!!!" I'm sitting here like, "Wow. Just wow." These singers can manipulate people with...I don't even know what. Everyone loves them; they're the most powerful people in the US, it seems.

We'll the part about not holding a candle to Beyonce was right on the money at least. After all: Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!

Beyonce I can understand. She's talented, and fully deserves the fame she gets. Miley Cyrus, however, is a totally different story, as I hope some of you would agree wink
