im know this is a basic question, but wanted clarification,
i have had Vision Lab Stidio installed on my system, since jan 09,my (current version is 1.005.012 ) and see a new verion is avalible,
sept-10.09 ver 1.005.014
whats the best way to do this? do i delete the current installed software and install a new updated version thru my online account download? or is the update more of a patch file? would appreciate a quick pointer,

If you are connected to the internet then if a new version is available you should be notified when you open visionlab of a newer version. That isn't happening... Try going into help and search for updates (in v-lab). It will show you the latest version if there is one and you can download it there.

The updates are full installers, not patches. It's generally advisable to uninstall previous version before installing a new version, although in practise this shouldn't be necessary on a healthy system.
