Masking- how do I set up the the layers?

I having a brain fart. I want to show a dinosaur behind an building.
I not sure how to do it. I place the building photo and then the dino ont top and I composite it in but I need to put the dino behind the building. I cant' remember how to do It. I check mask on the photo and
freehand the building but the color is green not red. What do I do next?

If the dinosaur is above the building, then add a mask to the dinosaur and use it to cut out the shape of the building. You want to remove part of the dinosaur, so you aply the mask to the dinosaur, not to the building.
