I've never had a technical problem with VisionLab until now. Well, I've had this C++ Runtime Error or something when trying to render this one minute long piece, but I solved that by breaking it into chunks. Anyway, as I said, I'm working on this shot that's about a minute long. I've been opening the file fine up until now. Then suddenly I can't get VisionLab to start. It gets to the same point everytime (18/240) and then the error message pops up. Image for your viewing pleasure:

I can't figure out why this is suddenly going on. I'm unsure if I've been able to open this particular save before or not, but if not, any tweaking since the last time I've been able to open the file was remarkably minimal, like adding light spill to a two second shot or something. I'm starting to get a little nervous now and I'd really appreciate any help I could get. Thanks in advance. And if you're fond of thanks, you'll get more when it's solved, so... incentive? Double the thanks... I could go as high as three thanks, even...

First off do a clean reinstall. If that doesn't work then did you install any new software lately? Change to a new web browser? Get a new camera? Also, install the latest versons of DirectX and quicktime if you don't have them.

NOTHING has changed since I was able to run the program last. I just made a change to the file I didn't like and couldn't undo, so I closed out, and when I tried to open it again, it wouldn't open. I just did a clean reinstall, and it did nothing but take up a lot of time. Project still won't open, this time the error message popped up at 16/240. I can open other projects just fine, this is only this one that's giving me crap.

I have the latest version of Quicktime. My version of DirectX is probably a few months old. I tried to find the latest version, but what I ended up downloading just filled my Downloads folder with like, a hundred zip files.

That explains alot. Try using the revert option next time.
Do other files render fine? Would it be possible to redo the project? Did you move one of the video files you were working on? Try those ideas.

I haven't tried rendering anything else recently, but I've never had any problem in the past. Just this project. None of the video files or anything have been moved, I'm positive on that.

I've already resigned myself to the fact that I've got to start over. So I've begun anew. Nothing in the project is especially difficult, I just didn't want to have to do it all again. Oh well.

Make sure you can render fine before starting anew. That's weird about closing though. Anyway, best of luck.

Agent: I don't think theclone is trying to render, he's trying to open his project.

theclone56 - it sounds like the project file has unfortunately become corrupted. It's unlikely there's anything we can do about this, I'm afraid.

With any projects (when using our software or anybody else's) it's always worth keeping multiple backups of the project at different stages, so that you can always roll back to a previous version if something goes wrong.

I got the same problem as theclone56. All my files seemed to be corrupted.

I run VisionLab many months on a XP Pro 32bit without any problems and now I changed my OS to Windows 7 Pro 64bit -> having a "Director Player Error" as well.

Regarding VisionLab:

Found out to enable "Compatibility Mode XP SP3" and "Run Application as Administrator"

After changing to o.m. settings all is running well !

I too have the same exact problem. Since I bought the software way back in November, at first it kept crashing, and now it doesn't load at all.
I get the same error messages when it tries to load the FX presets.
I've also submitted a trouble ticket about a month ago and they have yet to figure out my problem.

So essentially I've had this software for two months now and haven't been able to use it!

And if one more person tells me to do a clean install and check for the latest versions Quicktime and DirectX, I'm going to freak! I can't count how many times I've done a fresh install plus I've reinstalled my OS twice now, with no better results. Plus the worst part is realizing how many total hours I've spent trying to get this thing to work. To say it's frustrating is a vast understatement.

I'm thinking....complete refund???

Not that it matters at this point anymore, for those that are morbidly curious, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600, with 8 GB of ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT video card. And yes all those drivers are up to date too. crazy

When loading in new system:
Getting 2 director player errors during preset load and then it locks up
1-String expected
2-handler not found in object

Replaced old editing system which ran XP/SP3 with an ASUS CG5270-BP004, the only hardware I added to this system was a secondary HD and a firewire card. This system is running windows 7. Outside of the same software I ran on my last system which ran Vision Lab Studio fine, is the upgrade to Adobe CS4 production suite.

I have tried all the suggestions on the forum several times and still experience these errors. This software has become an important part on my editing suite in my business and I am at a stand still. I need some serious help and fast
Thanks, Fred

additional info Windows 7 program compatibility says issues found: incompatible application

Is anyone running this on windows 7?

Are you sure you're running it from an administrator account? Have you tried a full clean reinstall:

http://fxhome.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28295

If you still have problems, can you try creating a new account with FULL administrator access and installing to that?

We have Windows 7 machines here and haven't encountered any problems (other than a memory issue which we fixed back in December).

I even created a new admin account like you suggested, installing & executing each time from that account I have done several clean installs.

This is something I missed last week when reporting , After software fails loading and I use task manager to end task, a dialog box apparently was appearing behind software screen for just a few seconds that I just happen to catch on the task manager, and when going back to quickly view it, it said " Macromedia projector is not responding"
