Just wondering how to composite out the black part.
Like when I import a stock explosion, it has all the black around it. How do I get rid of that?

You will need to change the composite blend mode...To do so,
1. Select the layer you wish to edit by clicking its title bar on the timeline.
2. The Object Attributes will open in the Toolbox on the side.
3. Open the drop-down menu labeled Composite and select the Mode which you want to use.
Use the add or screen mode. This will auto matically key out the black for you.
Hope this helps.

Or use a Value key. More detailed instructions for both the Composite Mode method and the value key are provided in the second half of this knowledgebase article.
