I'm in trouble, I'm supposed to be completing a logo for my dads business but there is a spot where I'm stuck.
The logo consists of 5 separate layers, three of which are moving, one which is static, and another as a background. I also want the first four layers to fade in. I used a mask to separately fade each part in buy key framing the transparency. It used to be in black and white, problem is now my dad wants it in color. When I add one colored clip on top of the other, the shade of blue grows lighter. What's worse when I add a mask to fade each part in, this leaves a giant dark patch. I'm assuming that this has something to do with some transparency preset which makes layers see through. Is there any way I can change this. Anyone please help me. Thank you

It has mostly to do with trying to composite in EffectsLab, a program which is not intended for compositing. More info here: http://support.fxhome.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=41&nav=0,2,5,40
There is an unofficial way to get around this, which is explained in a couple of "Cloning in EffectsLab" tutorials, located in the tutorials section. Even though you aren't cloning, if you use the technique described there to import the footage, you might be able to manage what you are trying to do.
Of course, the whole project would be vastly easier if you used a proper compositing program, such as CompositeLab or VisionLab.

As Axeman says, EffectsLab isn't really designed for the kind of motion graphics work you describe.
