First production teaser to "Motive", my next feature film. Served as a casting and testing vehicle and will also be sent to interested parties as a demo what the film could look or feel like.

I've posted on "Filmmakers" forum....had'nt realised you put in Cinema.

copy..

This teaser is a shining example of true high quality cinematography.
The viewing experience is one of the best I've seen on this site with
all of the main ingredients at professional levels.
If this continues at this level this will be a DVD retailers dream.

I'm always going on about "hobbyists" not getting ahead of themselves and rushing into the almost impossible world of professional movie making
but in your case Marco I take my hat off to you.
Don't be offended by the term "hobbyist" ..I know your previous work was
marketed and successively placed in the DVD arena. biggrin

Thanks Davlin! I'm not offended at the term "Hobbyist" at all, though I do prefer "Independent filmmaker". wink

Glad you like it. My personal goal is to get better and improve with everything I do and I sencerely hope that I will succeed with that with "Motive". I think it should be possible. There's still much to learn. smile

The first shot of the kidnapper, out of focus and shadowed in the background, I could swear it was Nightcast.

Anyway, really liked this. Great pacing and visuals - the reveal of the handcuffs was expertly handled. Intriguing dialogue. Actors looked the part - the guy had a brilliant Superman Chin (seriously, do a superhero short with him, please).

Only thing I wasn't keen on was the explosion at the end, which was a bit too 'motion graphics' and not enough 'realistic effect'.

Hi, this looks very good technically, as expected. The acting and direction is good, as is the pacing and mood, it all works. I feel like I've seen this kind of thing too many times before to find it really interesting, but I appreciate that this is a taster of what you have planned, so I can't and don't want to comment on plot when it's obviously, at this stage, more about testing things out.

The one thing that I really thought looked bad was the explosion, as Tarn mentioned, it didn't look real enough in the context of the test.

Thanks for all the comments!

Yeah, the teaser's aim was for two things: One, to test certain things out that could be needed for the film on different levels and two to show production companies and actors how certain things could look or could feel and spur interest. Both worked excellently.

As such, the explosion is indeed a quick motion graphic I didn't spend a lot of time on simply for the fact that it doesn't impact any of the above and would be a waste of currently very valuable time - which I unfortunately have little of this month. sad

As I said a few days ago when messenging, this really is a great little film which really shows the cinematic quality of your work. I bet this cool concept will gather some interest both from potential investors as well as on the internet in general when the start of production comes closer smile As has been mentioned, the end explosion sort of looks a bit dodgy but since that's not the overall point of the concept, it doesn't detract from the overall experience.

And yes, similar to Tarn, I also thought about Nightcast when seeing the shadowy character in the background. wink 5 stars!

Oh, and that 35mm adapter look is awesome. wink

Nice, I'm teased! smile I thought the lighting in this was really good and I liked the tilting shot as the woman started to sit up. I kind of thought that the way the soldiers/police ran in was a little awkward though; almost a little static and without that much energy. I didn't think the explosion looked all that real, but hey, It's better than what I can do. Great job, I can't wait to see the final product. smile

I think it was film on a tripod with one guy, then they cloned it to make it many. I say this because Sollthar is famous for cloning masked people with guns, and after watching it a couple times I couldn't see a shot in which cloning could not be possible.

Anyways, pretty cool video, I look forward to the movie. Although I do hope the overall quality looks better than this video.

The cops are indeed all cloned. Actually, they're all me. And I just have an awkward way to move which definately doesn't suit cops. smile

In terms of image quality it depends what it will be shot on. If it will be shot digitally with HDV this is pretty much the max that's even possible.

A very well made teaser.

I hope you manage to acquire the funding to make this feature, I'd definitely be interested in adding it to my collection. What sort of time scale are you looking at to make this?

Oh, I didn't mean resolution quality. By 'overall quality' I guess what I mean is I hope the final product look and sound a little more expensive than this video. If that makes sense smile

Ah, gotcha. Well yeah, the problem is still the same. For it all to look and sound more expensive it'll have to be just that - more expensive. smile
Since we don't know the production budget just yet, I don't know what it will finally be shot on or what the sound will be recorded with.

Obviously, the more, the better. razz

I'm excited to see this movie. I'm sure it will be as good as, if not better than Nightcast judging by the trailer. A quick question though, will it have an english dub like Nightcast?

Sollthar, you said some where that you had a new 35mm adapter, did you use it here? My guess is yes, but just wondering.

I'll answer for him: yes. He answered that question for me in his Motive thread. Great look ain't it? I'm so glad I got the Letus adapter for Xmas.

Great Cinematography! Very entertaining... Had me wondering what was going on; Great cuts and everything! I think the explosion could use some shakes or something to make it look more realistic though!

The lighting was done with the inherent ambient neon light present at the location (my garage) plus two 1000 Watt spotlights with colored foil.
