The Golden Globes have been and gone, the BAFTA nominations have been announced, the Oscars are only a month away. This can mean only one thing: it's also time for the FXhome Awards 2010!

This year we're going to be running them throughout March, so now's the time to start reminding yourself of all the movies that were put into the cinema last year and which FXhomers made an impact on you.

CWe'll have more details towards the end of the month. Meanwhile, check out the 2009 winners.

This makes me wished I'd released the four or five shorts I have sitting in my videos folder before the year had ended. biggrin I will be hyping this locally in Austin in and around the university - last year we got a lot of people in the film school here involved in our work and with FXhome just by getting them to watch our films. It's kind of cool when you have the excuse to ask someone to watch your stuff for an important contest; versus asking someone to watch cold turkey. biggrin The exposure from 'Pages' around here is what got someone (my friend Trevor) in my Anthropology class to be interested in our stuff, and now he's acted in almost everything we've shot for the past year!

Can't wait! Woowoo!

I've been waiting for these for about two weeks. Quite interested. Wondering if there'll be any new categories.

Speaking of which, can we do the same deal as last year Tarn? 10'000 Dollars cash for the presenting and one or two awards for good measure - preferably the "best editing" one? twisted

Or perhaps the "Most obsessed with Rocky" award. Or the "Most references to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, regardless of the discussion's actual subject" award. wink

Every community which has memories of someone writing sexually oriented material involving sonic the hedgehog and tells tales of him and his mates slapping each other in the face with their privates is one thing for sure: Awesome!

Then there's things like sigs I re-thought up like 4 or 5 years later, funny noting the differences in skill level graphics-wise.

Also, just a few more old images...

Also, the Domino-CHIN!!!! thread, Christ. And the Flan in the Face accompanied by the Face in the Flan. I can't seem to find the link, but my brother also had one that had your old sig beaten and bloody for "I Like Tarantino-isms" during all of our criticism of the violence in Kill Bill. biggrin

But you've only really been a notable member for about a year. I've been here for seven. You were in grade school back then, you know? And it's nothing personal, either.

Here's a way to see it: I don't go to WWII veteran conferences and try to reminisce with them. And it's not that I don't have worthy memories of my own, it's that I wasn't in WWII.

...Is it just me or would that example actually make a really funny movie? I call the rights to that one. razz

Here's a way to see it: I don't go to WWII veteran conferences and try to reminisce with them. And it's not that I don't have worthy memories of my own, it's that I wasn't in WWII.

...Is it just me or would that example actually make a really funny movie? I call the rights to that one. razz
Good point but I was on the fxhome forums though.

And i do remember some stuff, and then in the middle i wasn't as active anymore, and now I am now, I hope to stay here for awhile, its a great community, alot of helpful people here.

...And I think that i've grown on this forum. (even if i was here for 1 year razz)

Maybe you have grown, but that's not what I'm talking about, here. I'm saying that a year is barely anything, and that the "old days" were back before EffectsLab, back when FXHome was still purple and when there were only a few regular and well-spoken members (and only one annoying newbie at a time, which included me for a while).

And anyway, there are barely any FXHome memes anymore, nor have there been for a few years, so there's nothing for you to reminisce about.

Hey Aculag, create a new meme, will ya?

About the only thing I can reminisce about is the painful journey that took me here. And how stupid my first thread was...

Not trying to butt in on the senior citizens' nostalgia here, but my most cringe-worthy memory is that global warming thread. That was just crazy and I think made me an officially hated forum member.

Then one post I made said nothing but "...lol?" Arktic replied with, "Richard, for God's sake stop making one-word posts!" Now I've learned to express my complete vacuousness in a greater number of words.

Also, this thread has inspired me to trawl the archives for a little bit to re-read some classic FXhome moments. I think my favourite re-discovery (which is perhaps strangely apt in this situation?) is this:

Classic.

Cheers,

Yeah, it's pretty amazing when you think that these forums have been around here for about nine years. That's fairly impressive. Unless I'm mistaken, the Internet was relatively new at that point.

Richard: Check out this vid. Worth a watch.

And as long as we are digging through old FXthings, I made a few minor rediscoveries, including a screenshot of my purple receipt from FXh/CSB, a hybrid version of the site in transition from purple to white, and this relatively short-lived redesign. Alas, no shots of green links.

On another note, I feel it is important for Malone to know that he took away lighsabers just before I graduated to the next color. I don't believe I can ever forgive him for that.

biggrin

The short-live redesign is still for my money the best look FXHome has yet to have. I'd love to see it come back- very chic and technological, and somehow iconic at the same.

Go back to that look. Like, nao.

In terms of Internet age, it's worth noting that when we first appeared the concept of video on the internet was pretty new. It was still a major technical hurdle to be able to upload, host and view such large files.

Bear in mind that FXhome and its community first appeared around 2000-2001.

YouTube launched in 2005.

Makes you think.

Somebody really needs to properly compile all the various FXhome anecdotes/memes/etc. There's some classic stuff in there.

Serpent: good idea! Feel free. wink

This year's awards kick off next week, guys, starting with the nominations phase like we did last year. I hope you've all been brushing up on the movies that were submitted to the cinema last year so that you can make informed decisions. smile

If you want to see exactly what was in the cinema in 2009, try this slightly crazy link:
