I wish to post to a film up on in the movies section of the site and I filled in the information accordingly. I provided a URL to the file from vimeo.com and it was rejected. Is this because fxhome doesn't accept files from vimeo.com?

That is correct. Vimeo url's link to a page containing the film, not directly to the video file. For cinema submissions, you need a direct link to the video file. You can do this by either

1. Uploading the video your private webspace, or
2. Uploading to Youtube and using the link provided by them.

Understandable. Might there, perhaps, be an alternative video hosting website other than Youtube to post the videos? Simply because for certain reasons I don't wish to post any films on Youtube at this time.

I believe you could sign up for Dropbox and then upload the movie file there. Once it's uploaded to the "public" folder on Dropbox, your file will have a download link that you can submit to the fxhome cinema.

Dropbox is free.

There is also a list of FXhome community members who would be willing to host your files.
