How it works

Stage 1 of the FXhome Awards involves the community nominating their favourite movies and FXhomers. These nominations will be counted to create the shortlist that is used in Stage 2 for the final awards voting.

The categories

There are six categories this year, giving you the opportunity to highlight what was best about the FXhome.com user movies and community in 2009:
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Special Effects
  • Best Movie
  • Best Filmmaker
  • Most Helpful FXhomer
  • Most Inspiring FXhomer

How to nominate

The Awards have their own special page on the website, where you can currently select your nominations in each of the six categories.

Click here to select your nominations!

You don't have to choose all your nominations at the same time, as the system allows you to come back to finish the form at any time. You've got until March 15th, at which point we announce the shortlists!

If you think you're in with a chance at being nominated, now's the time to start campaigning. wink

Good luck everyone!

The prizes

In addition to the prestige of winning an FXhome Award, this year we've got some great prizes for the winners from Tubetape and ISM Films, including filmmaking equipment and subscriptions to ISM's new Sneak On The Lot service.

We'll have more details on the prizes later in the month.

'After Midnight' for cinematography!

After midnight was filmed by myself with the Canon 7D and was one of the very first cinema uploads to use such a camera.

Anyway...

good luck everyone, this was a very good year for FXhome.

Nice, getting in their fast, Rockfilmers. biggrin Good luck!

It was a pretty varied year. I've had quite some trouble selecting my choices - I'm still pondering what I'll choose for Best Movie, as there's about 5-or-so movies I really can't choose between!

Was also cool to see some filmmakers being so prolific - Sollthar, Atom and ben3308 in particular. Be interesting to see if having so many decent films in the running ends up splitting the vote for those guys.

To those whom it might concern - PM-ing everybody asking them to vote for you will just lead to a lot of PM's and be a pain in the backside for everyone. In the same way I never buy Viagra from spammers, I am massively less likely to vote for anyone who pesters me wink

What???

No category for "Most Irrelevant Forum Member, 50 and Over, Who's Never Made a Film"?

I guess I won't be flying to London to accept any awards this year...

Starting to wish I had uploaded my 2009 works into the cinema wink Curse my laziness.

Glad we brought the FXhome awards around for another year! I'm not sure if I can make a decision on one or two of these subjects! We had so many great films (not to mention great filmmakers) over the last year, picking just one seems unfair smile But hopefully all the deserving will get nominated.

No Editing? disgust

Ah well, you'll see some campaigning from our camp soon enough. Although it's going to be a toss-up as to which movie to push for which awards- we certainly don't want big time vote-splitting, but we want all of our movies (one of them the all-time #1 movie in the archive wink) to have their fair shot.

Then there's the filmmaker awards. Ben and I might be upset with eachother over those... biggrin

Nice. I've always liked these community-strengthening events, and I'm happy to see this one continuing. Too bad 'Community Spotlights' didn't have the same legs wink

Good luck to all (potential) nominees!

Our chances are pretty slim, considering the competition, but thought I'd give it a try. Got to go through and decide who I'm voting for now. Happy Voting! biggrin

Chances are never too slim, Shadow. And with presentation like that- showing that you care and know how to portray your movie- you probably bought 5-10 votes right there. smile

I know votes may want to be kept quiet or personal or whatever, but as voting in the gubernatorial race is fast approaching here in Texas (hopefully the Dems will oust Rick Perry, who has held the seat since Bush first took office a decade ago biggrin) it had me thinking about how vital not just the votes, but the support of others is.

As such, if you don't consider yourself up for nomination, feel free to show your support via the following banners. If not, whatever. But here they are, for most of the creators of the two few pages of cinema submissions in 2009....

and of course....

Cheers!

I really want to use one of those sigs, but I don't want to unduly influence anybody else's nomination choices. smile

As has been noted elsewhere, there's some debate over whether it's OK to post additional campaigning topics on the forum outside of this topic. Normally we wouldn't allow such cross-posting as it can make everything a bit messy.

In this case we're going to run a bit of an experiment to see what happens. So campaign away, just bear in mind: too much campaigning can quite easily backfire and put people off! So exercise restraint. razz

I went ahead and submitted my votes on the first day that I could. Because, honestly, it's more of my decision that way. I mean, I personally don't need to read all of these threads campaigning for their film (or another film) when I could just browse through the cinema and remember my favorite films.

I mean, the very idea of campaigning to is convince the voters to vote for you, when in reality your films should be able to speak for themselves. A simple signature listing you're films to simply remind the community of what you submitted would do the trick just fine, IMO.

But hey, I'm just weird like that.

I feel like I have to say that I had nothing to do with the swinton-maximilian for your consideration thread, I woke up this morning unaware of it's existence, and I don't really know what to make of it. I feel a bit awkward about it to be honest, I wouldn't have made any kind of thread, not that I object to it, I just wouldn't have done it. I suppose it's quite nice? Maybe?

Having said that, I have prepared a Cameronesque award acceptance speech, approximate duration 55 minutes, in which I casually kick down, deface, and perform lewd acts upon life size cut outs of all other nominess.

Although, in all likely-hood, there probably wont be any other nominees.

It's OK, I like it really. I just saw that the thread had obviously become a war zone, and then been cleaned up, all while I was asleep, dreaming of statuettes, so it made me fell a bit awkward.

Anyway, good luck to all.

Clever, but one would hope you would end up voting for someone. What's the point in continuing a contest if forum regulars are adamant about not voting? biggrin

A large reason we started hyping ourselves was to, in turn, start hyping the awards. Nobody else may have been doing it, but it's fun to jazz things up, no? wink

Awesome stuff, Redhawk! Very cool, detailed retrospective. Some nice extras, too.

I'm re-rigging a page for http://www.ben3308.com/ but can't sort out the right resolution. If anyone clicks my sig to go there, do you have to scroll side-to-side or does the display fit just right?

Fine here, but I'm on a widescreen 1680x1050 monitor which is pretty large compared to the average web viewer.

On my 1280x800 resolution it only needs to be a few pixels smaller in the width, possibly about...200 pixels smaller? but other than that it's good!

I can fit it on my monitor easily enough, but I never browse with my browser window full screen, so I have to either scroll or resize my window to see it all.

BTW Ben3308 - with the text vertical like it is, every time I glance across the page I see Dr. Ben Adams, rather then Dir. Ben Adams.

That might just be me though. Doctor.

Don't forget guys, the nominations phase ends on Monday 15th - that's this coming Monday.

Make sure you've all made your selections by Monday at the very latest, as that's when we switch over to Stage 2, reveal the shortlists and let the final voting commence!

I gotta say, the nominations so far are very interesting - every single nomination will count, trust me, so don't hold back or miss out.

Sorry Pooky, despite your valiant efforts, the numbers are simply on my side. Don't believe me? Look at this totally official and not-fabricated chart that displays the truth.

The other candidates are fighting like cats and dogs. No respect, no dignity.

But my friends, this is not the time to give into childish putdowns. Vote FXhomedude. Vote because you should. wink

Considering John McCain has been saying 'my friends' for decades, and that he actually does- despite his nasty and ill-played last presidential campaign- seem to be a pretty innocently (although yes, I know, politicians aren't ever 'innocent') friendly guy, I think it's only a positive repetition to be used.

Besides, he got it from FDR- who said it the exact same way in his fireside chats. I listened to a set of them yesterday for my political speechmaking class (I know, I'm killin' it! wink) and FDR probably says 'my friends' every few seconds/sentences to an even greater degree. biggrin

I vote for Pooky, cause he's a pooky, and it's hard to say no to a pooky.

Also, since I'm cool, my vote counts 200 times as much.

And he got it from someone else, who got it from someone else, who got it from someone else, who got it from someone else, who got it from someone else, who got it from someone else, and so on.

I think you are wrong about the "and so on" part, Aculag. That last someone else you mentioned is the guy who invented it.

Okay, I wasn't able to do the flash site I wanted, so I settled for something much, much simpler because it was nagging away at me and I hadn't uploaded anything yet.

You'd be interested to know that me and my FXhome buddies are camped out around the computer, coffee brewing with Google chrome refreshing the page every 15 seconds. BTW: Is there a chance for a midnight eastern standard time shortlist release?

The shortlist will be going up today - we only just got into work in UK time. smile Not sure precisely when Malone's going to make the switchover, but it'll be sometime in the next 8 hours. smile

So this really is your LAST chance to nominate, if you haven't done so already.
