Voting

Thank you for all your nominations over the last few weeks. The nominations have all been counted and the categories now have their shortlists!

The next step is for you all to take a look at the shortlists and decide which of the nominees you would like to see win. You can view the nominees and cast your vote by visiting the main awards page.

Please note that Axeman and Tarn were excluded from the nominees due to being directly involved with FXhome Limited. Apologies (and many thanks!) to anybody that voted for us.

Whew! Congrats to all the nominees and thanks to all who put me and my films, and Ben as well, in all these categories- it's very flattering and we're both very grateful for it!

Will be hard to decide where to campaign from here, though, given the nominee choices...

Sorry Pooky, the FXhome community and I all had a secret-yet-totally-awesome party (you weren't invited) where we all secretly voted me as the "Best Pooky". You came in third place, right behind Tarn. Sorry man, tough break.

I'm thinking not. I don't need to change my username and steal someone's orginal signature to know that I won the award. They'll official announce it one of these days.

I am going to make one of my signature totally unfounded guesses and say that Pooky is Pooky. Best Pooky is FXhome Dude, and Thrawn-Pooky mix is FXhomer 29348348923467023567090973407203577234000000000233356329.

Okay folks, let me clear this up for ya'll.

Pooky = Pooky
Thrawn = Pooky 2.0 (AKA The Best Pooky)
Best Pooky = Complete and Total Poser

And it's been voted and decided on already, so there's no need to put up a fight. It's over.

No joke, votes don't lie. smile What I would write off as a joke is the way Atom, Ben and their films own a spot every shortlist. I just can't imagine the type of bribes you guys must be giving out. wink

It 'twas tough. wink

But no, we kinda just let things go once that campaigning got all messy. No doubt we'll pick it up again now though, I think, as we don't want vote-splitting between Ben and I and our movies resulting in a complete and surefire loss.

He joined in 2009. Probably someone's friend who made an account, and is now active again that their friend is in the Awards here.

It's not like we never had any intermittently-active friends post here. gregcotten, SNI BRI, chase, ArringtonProductions, SpiderShot, and the list goes ooooooooon....

We've created a YouTube playlist of the nominated movies, which you can find here.

A couple of nominees aren't on YouTube, so you can find them in the FXhome.com user movies area:

Click here to watch The Wild.

Bit unfair for those movies not on Youtube don't you think?

"The Wild" is, in an unedited version at least. "NightCast" is obviously way too long.

Have edited links to those movies into the post.

Do you mean that The Wild is on YouTube already? If so, bung me a link and I'll add it to the playlist.

Campsite is too long for YouTube as well, but Redhawk put it up in sections, so the playlist only has part 1.

Thank you.

Yes, there's an old rougher edited version on Youtube. Also in two parts since the film is too long.

There's just over a week of voting left in the FXhome Awards 2010, with the closing date being Monday 29th. Several of the categories are still very close, so the next ten days will be crucial to deciding the winners!

This year we've got a collection of cool prizes:

  • A year's subscription to SneakOn.com for all the winners. This gives you access to a library of 30,000 songs and 60,000 high quality sound effects, plus tutorials, networking and other opportunities.
  • For the Best Special Effects category, Tubetape have donated an MX Twin Lamp Three Softbox Kit with boom and a chromakey green suit (everyone should have one of these!).
  • For the Best Cinematography category, Tubetape have donated an MX Twin Lamp Three Softbox Kit with boom and a copy of Video Copilot's Pro Scores collection.
  • All winners will also receive an FXperience bonus to their accounts, which will make you considerably more cool than before.

Although I wonder-since there's category-specific prizes for Best Visual Effects and Cinematography, are there different prizes for Best Movie?

Hehe, that's not a bad idea and not far from the truth - unless of course the fact that I'm not presenting an award in any category I'm nominated in! biggrin But don't fear, there will be some floor crawling!

So we've decided it's best for us and our chances if we urge those who haven't yet voted and may want us and/or some of our work to have a running chance to vote a specific way to keep from vote splitting and leaving us most-assuredly empty-handed. So we've made a video, of course. One that's sort of unlike anything we've done or shown ever- as it's a 'bloopers'/behind-the-scenes sort of promo; and we normally stray away from that stuff after-the-fact with movies.

But alas, here it is. Enjoy! wink

I really really liked that. Behind the scenes stuff is awesome, you guys should get someone to shoot more and you should edit together more behind the scenes reels. Good fun. My behind the scenes reels and stuff has been my favorite part of my two big projects.

Thanks! My only regret is that the sound mixing is sort of jarred because Ben shifted the wavelength (or something like that) of the song after two uploads of it immediately getting taken down for copyright- so the result is a few slowed beats and hiccups to 'trick' YouTube. smile

But yeah, thanks. As you can see- Ben has some James Cameron uncompromising-ness in him. biggrin

Nice video, was a very interesting watch smile Always fun to see some raw or B-roll footage, but I'm afraid I expected a bit more of a contrasty grade wink

Nice, looks like good friendly working environment. My behind the scenes would feature a lot more angry shouting, and me calling the tripod unmentionable things because I can't reasonably call the people I'm working with those things, even though I'd like to. Maybe it would even feature the farmer who came to investigate from his house over half a mile away because the volume of "discussion" was so loud.

Heh, well I think we've all probably had our meltdowns at some point, I suppose I feel like I work with talented people, so me frustrating them leaves them with the option to quit - they could take their talents elsewhere, which is (obviously) something I don't want.

That, and it's easy for cast/crew to get stressed on our 24/48 hour projects, and my brother does intermittent pre-production in the early stages, then a lot of sleep in the later stages (to be rested and ready to edit when it's down to the wire) so people depend upon me for guidance/support not just in terms of what to do; but quite literally how to simply keep going - given that by the end, we're all tired and miserable, but exceedingly proud of what we've done, and happy we did it.
