split screen?

how do i do the slit screen effect,
and if i can can i choose where i split it?

You add a mask to the top layer, and adjust it to cover the portion you want to remove. The other layer will show through where you have placed the mask.

Every time you add a video clip to the timeline it will create a new layer automatically. Each side of your split screen should be a separate clip, and thus a separate layer. I strongly recommend looking at the video tutorials to get familiar with the fundamentals and basics of the interface.
