MAJOR particle trouble

I love the cool particles and am excited to use them, but here's the problem. With any particle, I can only rotate it, or move the direction of where the particle ends. i want to move the particle to a certain spot on the canvas and i don't know how to.

using the emitter attributes thing doesn't really help because it only moves the direction of the particle, and when it does actually move the particle, the particle gets altered

You can always drag the emitter to any location you want when in the Emitter Attributes Toolset. Particle direction is a completely separate control.

The effect this has on already emitted particles will be controlled by whether they are stuck to origin or free from origin.

This tutorial article might help you understand the basic controls and workings of the particle engine.
