This is an important time for CSB-Digital and the community – with AlamDV2 being released on CD in September, things are really going to start going crazy. Once the new users start arriving you'll all have the chance to show why you've earned all those Force points.

To celebrate these important developments and enable you to get directly involved with the big release, we're holding the first Official AlamDV2 Competition. We want you to demonstrate your AlamDV2 effects skills to create a movie-style trailer for the program.

The winning trailer will be used to promote the program in various places, such as through alamdv.com, at computer shows, on magazines coverdiscs and television programs. The winner will, of course, be fully credited, so this could be beneficial for anybody with aspirations in the industry.

As further incentive, the winner will receive a bundle of computer hardware and software, including a special copy of AlamDV2 on CD, and some top filmmaking books.

The trailer should be a demonstration of AlamDV2 effects, so story and plot isn't important in this case – here it's all about cool effects, giving you the perfect opportunity to do all those effects shots you've always wanted to do but couldn't justify! Check out the original AlamDV2 Trailer if you want some ideas as to how to approach the project.

Competition Outline:
Length: 30 seconds – 2 minutes
Closing date: All entries must be submitted by September 7th (a short deadline but also quite fun)

The Rules:
1. All effects must be created in AlamDV2 (other programs can be used, eg for compositing, editing etc, but be sure to keep the focus on AlamDV2).
2. Violence should be kept at 12-certificate or under.
3. Do NOT use copyrighted images (such as Star Wars spaceship plugins).
4. Do NOT use copyrighted music.
5. No swearing.

Tips:
Avoid dialogue, as it makes it more difficult internationally.
Effects do not necessarily have to do what they were created for – the trailer is to show off what AlamDV2 can do, not specific individual effects, so combining effects and using them in unexpected ways is just as good as doing a lightsword fight or a muzzle flash.

How To Enter:
Entries must be submitted via the internet. If a compressed version is supplied via the internet, it must be of good quality and you may be asked to send a high quality version at a later date (which we will reimburse you for). Full details on how to upload and compress your movies will be posted in the next few days.

The Legal Bit:
By entering you give CSB-Digital full rights to use your movie to promote AlamDV and CSB-Digital. This includes computer shows, computer magazines, the AlamDV2 website, other websites and distribution via CDs/DVDs and TV/Internet broadcast. CSB-Digital may also edit the clip but you will retain full credit.

Good luck, all the CSB-Digital team are looking forward to seeing what you come up with - we know it will be amazing. biggrin

Is the winning video going to be put on the CD version ( just incase people don't look at this site, it would give them ideas of what can be done. ) ?

Pity you didn't want to have a combined trailer... sad
(may I ask why? Especially in that short time period it would be much better to be able to concentrate on one single scene)

I would have loved to add something cool, but for a whole trailer I don't have enough time right now... sad

But I wish all of those who do a trailer BEST LUCK and look forward to see some great trailers! biggrin

Sollthar - we don't have the time to organise the making of such a product but if you feel like working on a scene and editing in some other from other people we are happy with that. Make a post about it, I'm sure you'll find lots of willing people.

It would be great to have you involved as you are so welll respected in the AlamDV2 community. May a ask if its possible for you to send us a higher quality version of the original test movie? That would be great to show people as well.

b4uask30male - I don't see any problem with using custom-made plugins. If you're using alamdv2, then anything goes I guess. That's as long as you upload them to the website ASAP - bit unfair, sort of, otherwise. But if you want to make your own ones specifically then that's cool, 'cos it's also showing how quick and easy it is to make plugins.

Probably best to wait for the official nod from schwar/malone, but I personally don't see a problem with it (so long as they're uploaded).

Sollthar - why not film something small and send it to someone else to incorporate? That way they get to work with material from the almighty Sollthar, you get to contribute to the competition, and everyone's happy. smile

Good luck everyone!

Just got to decide if I'm going to have a go or not...(although, I guess, being a CSB team member I won't actually be allowed to enter the competition...I guess there are some drawbacks to this job!)...

Ill try to do anything I might in the limited time I have right now... Maybe some others feel same and we could do one combine trailer... Ill make a thread of it..

I actually edited "the test" in exactly that size and quality the version you have is in. Thats the only existing version... I could edit it again, but It would take some time cause Id have to start all over again (not even sure If I kept the original footage... Wasn't really expecting that anyone would like it) sad

Man, this sure came at a bad time. I'm up to my neck in work and can't film anything! I would've loved to take part smile I have a few cheesy ideas too! I guess I'll just have to make mental movies until I'm done with work... time, flowing like a river... who knows when we shall meet again?

Heh. Can we frame that quote? razz

And Moebius - if you don't have time but have some cool ideas, why not try and collaborate with someone else who can implement them?

Sidewinder - Use of bluescreening and 3D backgrounds are fine with us.

B4uask30male - Light "swords" can be used, but nothing which has a copyright on it, such as X-wings and TIE fighters etc...

If you have doubts about anything let us know, and we can give you a yes or no answer. We'd like to stress that we are trying to demonstrate the use of AlamDV2, not third part applications, so if you need to use them make their use subtle.

Good luck to all that enter!!

I booked a camera for sat, then this morning i saw that people who couldn't film wanted to take scenes from films they done ( the post ended up changing into teams kinda thing, ) but when i posted all i saw was people suggesting a different way to what was annouced.

I will continue, schwar has said that he does not mind if people "team/join" but will also welcome the way the original was written.

GRRRrrrrrr evil I will win, oh yes, i will win.... lol

The brief stands as it always was. But just as you're going to be working with some other people, so are Sollthar and peeps.

Different ways, same aims, or something. smile

We know different people work in different ways - some work in teams, others like to work alone - this doesn't matter to us.

The minimum requirement is about 30secs of footage. This could even be stuff you've already filmed with cool effects added, or you can go all out and make a dedicated production. Whatever you submit we look forward to seeing it smile

You guys will be voting in the end anyway...

P.S. As for dedicated plugins - go for it. But we would love to have them up on the site as well asap biggrin
