Okay, so i get this message mostly when im dragging the the view thingy on the timeline. It says something like "string expected, void, index out of range". This message is my ultimate enemy, because even if it only appears once in a project, it will keep on coming up, and it will be inpossible to render the footage in the project. Once i click ok on on the message, wherever i drag the view thingy on the timeline, the program will only show the same frame that i was on when the message popped up. This thing has been annoying me a lot, and today my "annoyance" reached climax when a project that I have worked on for two days has to be redone because of that "string expected void index out of range" message! I know it says many times that you should re-install the program, but I've done that once before, and it keeps one popping up! What can I do?

What operating system are you using?

When you install, are you installing as an administrator?

And depending on what operating system you're using, after installing, do you run the program as an administrator? I've found that in Vista and Windows 7 it helps to set the program launcher to "Always run as administrator."

Please provide the specifics of the format of the footage you are working with. If this consistantly happens when you drag footage to the timeline, I'm suspecting a codec issue.

Identifying the source of the problem will help to avoid it in the future, but even if you have re-installed before, if the message comes up again, a Clean re-install is recommended. And make sure you carefully follow the clean re-install instructions, and don't just re-install the software.

I'm using WIndows XP. The format of my video is DV PAL in .avi. It doesnt come up when i drag footage to the timeline, it comes up when i click and drag on different frames to view different frames of the film. So like previewing, except for im not pressing the preview button. I am running the program as an administrator. And last time i reinstalled, i did a clean re-installation.
Any further help would be much appreciated.

Is the .avi footage in a DV codec? Or is it just DV resolution?

Encountering this error shouldn't mean that you lose any of your work, as long as you save regularly. You don't want to save over your project file AFTER the error has occurred, but otherwise your project file should be fine.

I just purchased CompositeLab Pro, and performed a brand new install on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit computer with 16 GB memory, and 3.0 GHz Quad Core Xeon Processor. It does not work. I get Director Player Error String expected <Void>. Then I click OK and I get Error, -2147219502.

I installed using the Run as Administrator, and when I attempt to open, I use the Run as Administrator. I don't have problems with any other video editing software. I'm using Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 14.

Please help me figure this out. I have the CD, plus downloaded and reinstalled using the installer from the website.

I'm also doing google searches and found this thred, and a few others, but no fixes yet.

Thanks,
Dave

Did you try following the clean re-install instructions that I linked to in my previous post? In nearly all cases where this error appears, following those instructions will clear it up. If it doesn't, we will need more information about when exactly the error message appears.

I am also having the same problem with the "String Expected" issue when using uncompressed AVI files. It seems to be a problem when applying the "Neon Light" effect.

The following error message appears when I try to apply a 4-point Neon Glow...

"String Expected <Void>

then followed by:

"Invalid Perimeter (member 46 of castLib1)

I recently had to re-install Windows 7 and the problem has occurred. I have carried out a clean install, am running the program as administrator and the problem re-occurs...

I have re-installed the program twice now but I'm having no luck...

Please help me someone!!!!!
