So as to not cloud the issue, I'm reposting this in the hopes that the solution isn't just going to be "then don't do that".

I still have this issue with the odd crash on rendering, and fairly reliable crashing when previewing presets. I'd like to figure out what the next step I can do to help resolve this, as it makes me a bit uneasy thinking that it is so easily reproduced.

The original thread started here:

Where do I go from here?

Well, if such an easily repeatable crash goes so utterly unanswered, I'm sure you understand (and surely expect) that I will have to take my money elsewhere. I'm sure that the same reason it is so easily crashable when previewing has a lot to do with the frequent crashing when grading is on.

And yes, if you read my original post (just in case anyone suggests it) I tried all the suggested options. Even though it was from a clean install, I tried removing and reinstalling, checked quick time, DirectX, etc.

I admit that I had forgotten about this issue for the past little bit, but shortly after you posted I did try to replicate this crash, for some time, unsuccessfully. If the software repeatedly crashes on your system, then it is understandable that you may want to go with another option, but its also important to understand that for most people, this issue doesn't exist.

I didn't answer to begin with because I didn't have any input, I was trying to re-create the issue so I had some basis to work from, then I got distracted working on other things and forgot about it.

Did you submit a support ticket on this, to get official assistance?

I've also tried to reproduce this error on a couple of machines and have had no crashes at all. I imagine we would have many reports if this was a common issue.

Have you installed some additional presets or just those which come with the software?

I didn't try to submit an official ticket, the support link looked like it only offered this as a way of inputting things, the rest are KB and tutorials.

I have installed nothing other than the base downloadable package.

And I understand that this is likely an odd issue, not too many copies would be sold if it did this everywhere. But I'm at a loss for what else I can check. This is a new(ish) install of Win 7 64bit, and a clean install of VisionLab. I really have no idea what else to check/do, other than following the re-install instructions, which I did.

I'm sure someone else will run into it, as I said this machine is pretty clean and used for my real work also, so I keep it that way. The only oddity that is installed is possibly development related, as I write code for a living.

I've done all I can do to try and resolve this, with the exception of attaching the debugger to VL and trying to see where it is crashing.

For the time being, I'm almost done a lightning plug-in for Vegas, which is one of the things I need sooner than later, and I will check back here from time to time to see if a new version has been released. At least, it seems that's my only recourse right now.

Thanks,

Craig

I'd go there and submit a ticket, so the guys who really know what they are doing can look into it for you. I wish I could help, but I'm not sure what to recommend either, without being able to replicate the issue.

One thing I've been suggesting to Windows 7 users is that since Windows 7 doesn't give admin accounts 100% full admin rights, users should make sure that when they install the program, they right-click and choose "run as administrator" to run the installer. Then, after the program is installed, change the properties of the icon for the program launcher to "Run this program as an administrator" on the Compatibility tab under the "Privilege Level" section.

This took care of all issues I was having when running the Lab products on Windows 7. I don't know for sure that it will fix your issue, but its worth trying.

Thanks for the suggestion alienux. Normally, the way I have it setup, I get asked to allow an app to have admin priv's, but just for fun I did a uninstall/clean, redownloaded and reinstalled. But still, viewing two presets and it crashes, rendering the muzzle-flash demo crashed the second time. And BTW, that's quite a flash coming from the suppressor... MP5 or HK94? I think I'd return it for a refund. =)

Anyway, will keep trying things, if anyone has suggestions. Thanks.
