Hi,

I would be really grateful if someone can help me with this problem. I want to render the specialFX footage but without a background. Thus when I import this footage into another video FX application...I wont have to do a remove background green screen/Chroma keyer etc...the footage will be imported into other video editor with no background present.

I just cannot find this option anyhwere in VisionLab. I have tried different rendering options...however I found DirectShow Uncompressed (.AVI) the best for editing in other video editors. However, contrary to the help file - there is NO option to remove background when selecting this render option. I have tried this on Windows 7 and Windows XP computers. Is there anyway to remove background? This will speed up rendering a great deal. Thanks

Indeed there is; in the Render Settings, there is a checkbox to Retain Alpha Channel. More detailed instructions are available in this knowledgebase article: How do I render with alpha channels?

If you are working with more complex projects, you can also use the "Multi-file layered export" option, in the Output Type menu of the Render Settings, to export each layer of your project as a separate file, with alpha channels intact, so you can combine them elsewhere more easily.

Aha, thats what I am finding to be the biggest mystery.

When I goto Render settings. I only have the following options for QuickTime:

OutputType: Standard (Single File)
Composite Quality: High (AntiAliased)
ImageScale: Full
FileType DV (.mov)

AND...tick box for: Retain Sources Tracks sound where possible

The "Retain Alpha Channel" tick box is not available in my render settings whether I use quicktime/AVI or anything else.

Sounds like perhaps you have a very old version of the software. If you register the software properly, you can login to the account you used to purchase it and download the latest version free of charge here.
