I purchased composite lab, and am working with the effectslab demo. I just need some effects for one 20 minute movie and I don't know if it would be easier and cheaper to just hire one of you who knows how to use these programs for the few clips I need effects, or if one of you give lessons for hire? I spend hours each day trying to figure out how to make effects and to no avail! Any advice would be helpful!

Firstly, have you watched the video tutorials for the software?

There's lots of stuff there, ranging from general layout and use of the software to specifics on creating various effects, and even more on the tutorial DVD's they offer.

Despite the prevailing conception that in this day and age digital effects are easy, real quality effects still take time, skill and effort to achieve. So expect to have a bit of time involved in the learning curve. And if you run into a specific problem, post it on the forums here and someone will likely be able to help you out. The more specific you are, the easier it will be for someone to get you the answer you need.

Most effects can be done multiple ways, depending on the scene in question, how it is filmed, and what the exact effect you are after is. So general questions are difficult to answer with any brevity and clarity, as the subject is so involved. Being specific as to what you are trying to achieve is very helpful.
