Hi There,

I just had a look at the EffectsLab Demo. [I have a licensed Vision Lab - so this is just for fun / checking out the differences.]

When importing still images into the project I noticed that there are different composite-options for different image formats. For png NORMAL is preselected and this can't be changed. For jpg I can switch between SCREEN and ADD but NORMAL isn't available.

Is this limited on purpose? If this shouldn't happen - is there something that I might have overlooked when setting up the project?

Thanks for your answers and have a nice evening,

It actually depends on whether the image has an alpha channel or not, I think. Since jpegs can't include an alpha, they will always default to Screen. But for images with an embedded alpha channel, such as png's, then EffectsLab will detect the alpha channel, assume it is the transparency map you wish to use, and use the Normal mode to display the image based on the alpha info.

Hi Axeman,

that's what I thought. Thanks for looking into this. Maybe this limitation is needed to separate EffectsLab from CompositeLab.

Have a nice evening!

Yeah, basically EffectsLab isn't intended to be a video compositing app, so more advanced features like full control over blend modes have been limited, whereas CompositeLab or VisionLab will give you total control.
