Haha, much easier than the portraits, although I had been working on a few shots and was editing them today. Oh well, thanks for the update!

And people are often the most interesting subjects too. Shame there weren't more. Feel free to submit portrait work to the final open category.

I'm going to hit up some of my film/photography classes and see if anyone here is willing to register on FXhome to enter something. Is that doable within the rules? I know a good amount of photography people, would likely yield some nice photos here.
Just a suggestion.

That'd be pretty lame if someone registered just to enter the contest, then won, and was never seen again.

Well it is allowed yeah, but obviously it's better if someone registered then realised this is a community that they SHOULD join.
Also I agree with Serpent, portraits are by far easy to do and very interesting to work on and look at. Shame there was only one submission

I talked to JoeyLawrence on chat and AIM a few times, he came off like a true spoiled asshole with just assloads of pretentiousness for someone who only does portrait photography. You think I'm pretentious, talk to that guy. Christ.
Also, for someone that just copied Dave Hill's Photoshop gestures and filters on his own photos, he still had the nerve to actually sell a tutorial of his own post-processing. Don't get me wrong, the guy is good at portraits - but not at forums, filmmaking really, or being any kind of upstanding guy.

I asked him how he achieved a lighting effect in a private message and he was very helpful. In his videos and blog he seems very down-to-Earth. I'm sure he could be slightly pretentious, but I saw a different side.
As for the "Dave Hill Look," a lot of photographers pioneer looks and styles, and a lot are adopted and utilized by other and future peers and pioneers alike. Joey clearly has his own style, and he may well have been inspired by Dave Hill. I don't know what his first tutorial series is like as I think post processing can easily be learned for free on one's own, but the second series plays with workflow, and creatively using different lighting/equipment and processing techniques to achieve the image you're going for. That's a useful series, because every creative has little ideas and things they do that are a bit different, that others can adopt and adapt. But who cares if a rising photographer would dare to post a post processing tutorial so he can make some side cash? No one told you to buy it, you probably don't need it. A man has to eat.
I digress, let's see some entries.

I have to state, if we don't get a certain number of submissions then no one will win the competition and I'll just stop the competition completley this time round. The reason being, I have college starting up soon, and I assume everyone else is already starting education and work.

Ehh, I think you need to give it more time. I am working on getting a good picture, but it's not ready yet. The same thing happened for the last thread, I just hadn't finished it yet by the time it was closed. So don't close it,

Nah, I mean I'm closing it after the categorys deadline comes. If there's not many submissions when the category is over then it's not entirely a fair win depending on the number of people who have entered.

The winner of the final category. For showing they took the time and effort into the photo and just creating a generally nice looking image.
